Money earmarked for wolf reintroduction in the Rocky Mountains has been diverted to Montana whirling disease research.

The $200,000 was included in the 1996 budget bill signed by the president last week. Whirling disease has decimated some trout populations by inflicting skeletal deformities in cartilage of young fish.
