Local Summer Job Outlook Is Good
Spokane employers foresee a good job market this summer, according to Manpower Inc.’s quarterly employment survey.
During July, August and September, 23 percent of the Spokane companies interviewed plan to add workers to their payrolls. Sixty-five percent expect their work force levels to remain unchanged, and 6 percent predict a reduction.
During the same quarter last year, only 16 percent of the local employers interviewed said they would expand their staffs, and 10 percent anticipated decreases.
The survey for the second quarter of the year showed 13 percent expecting job growth and 3 percent anticipating cutbacks.
The survey reports that the best hiring prospects this summer are expected in construction, wholesale/retail trade, and services. Staff cutbacks are projected in durable goods manufacturing and finance/insurance/real estate.
