Caring About Wetland Protection Is Normal
The average member of Ducks Unlimited is a true-blue American.
According to a statistical profile of the 1.5 million members released by the 50-year-old national conservation group, the average DU supporter is a 42-year-old married male with an American vehicle, two family dogs and a household income of $58,000.
About half the members are college graduates.
They aren’t all hunters, though. More of the members went fishing last year (88 percent) than waterfowl hunting (83 percent). About 87 percent of DU members vote, and a third of them actively participate in fund-raising for wetlands projects.
After all, that’s what DU is all about. In recent years, DU clubs have pumped $700,000 into Washington wetlands habitat projects. The international organization has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on breeding habitat in Canada, officials say.
The Spokane Valley Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will continue it’s 13-year tradition of couples-oriented fund-raising banquets on June 7. The event begins at 4 p.m. with clay target shooting games, followed by a banquet and auction at the Spokane Gun Club, E19615 Sprague Ave.
The banquet and auction costs $50 for couples and $40 for singles, with cost including a Ducks Unlimited membership.
