Glacier Chalet Reopens
National parks
Granite Park Chalet, a backcountry accommodation in Glacier National Park for nearly 80 years, doesn’t open until July, but visitors could begin making reservations this week.
The small stone chalet, which was built by the Great Northern Railway in 1914, is located on an open hillside near Swiftcurrent Pass and is accessible only by trail. The shelter has been closed for several years to upgrade the sewage system.
The shelter will be open July 8-Sept. 14, with visitors charged $60 per person per night.
Services include a private room with a bed and access to a common kitchen. Full service is a luxury of the past at the chalet. Guests should bring their own sleeping bags, water, food preparation gear and food. Reservations: (888) 242-5381.
