Edith Stevens Hayden, Idaho
Graveside service for Edith Marie Stevens, 67, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Stevens, who was born in Texas, died Saturday.
She grew up in Texas and New Mexico, later moving to California. She had lived in Sandpoint before moving to Hayden in 1979.
She was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Ekno, in 1970.
Survivors include her husband, Albert; one son, Mike McFarland of Hayden; one daughter, Linda Craft of Rathdrum, Idaho; three brothers, Paul, George and Scott Roberts, all of California; and three grandchildren.

Edith Seaman Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Service for Edith B. Seaman, 88, will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at Mt. View Mennonite Church in Bonners Ferry.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Seaman, who was born in Rock Island, Ill., died Saturday.
She grew up and was educated in Oregon, later moving to Orofino, Idaho, as a teenager. She had lived in various parts of North Idaho and California before settling in Bonners Ferry to be near family. She had also traveled through Europe.
She had worked in cafes, hospitals and private homes. Mrs. Seaman was preceded in death by her husband, Marion.
Survivors include two sons, Howard and Richard Seaman, both of Bonners Ferry; one daughter, Bette Bond of Bonners Ferry; one niece, Peg Childress of St. Maries; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Robert Adamson Spokane
Visitation for former school principal Robert J. Adamson, 78, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Vigil service will be at 6 p.m. today at St. Paschal’s Catholic Church. Burial Mass is set for 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Adamson, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.
He graduated from Lind (Wash.) High School and from Washington State University. He received a master’s degree in education from Eastern Washington University.
He worked in education for 43 years and spent 33 years in the East Valley School District. He served as principal at Trent Elementary, retiring in 1981.
He worked for Early Dawn Dairy and Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood, during the summer breaks. He also raised horses.
He was a member of St. Paschal’s Catholic Church, the Valley Elks Lodge and the Brotherhood of Friends Lodge.
His wife of 39 years, Virginia Adamson, died in 1992.
Mr. Adamson is survived by two sons, Kim Adamson of Spokane and Scott Adamson of Priest River, Idaho; one brother, Ray Adamson of Liberty Lake; and four grandchildren.

Clarence George Spokane
Funeral Mass for Clarence M. George, 78, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. George, who was born in Butte, Mont., died Sunday.
He married Lillian Miller in 1941 in Spokane.
He graduated from Gonzaga University School of Law and was a 51-year member of the Washington State Bar Association.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. George is survived by his wife; two sons, Richard and Kevin George, both of Spokane; three daughters, Dawn Nita Granath of Bellevue, Wash., Rebecca Petersen of Redmond, Wash., and Sarah Kilpatrick of Poulsbo, Wash.; one sister, Elizabeth Cater of Bozeman, Mont., and seven grandchildren.

Clarence ‘Porky’ Streeter Priest River, Idaho
Graveside service for Clarence “Porky” Streeter, 74, will be at 1 p.m. today at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Streeter, who died Friday, was born in Belmond, Idaho.
He served in the Army in the 47th Engineer and Construction Division. He received the Victory and Good Conduct medals.
In 1946, he married Minnie Nipp in Thompson Falls, Mont.
Mr. Streeter was a member of the Teamsters Local 690 in Spokane and worked for many years in the construction industry as a truck driver.
He had lived in Priest River for 14 years and previously lived in Post Falls. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Coeur d’Alene, and the New Testament Church in Oldtown, Idaho.
Mr. Streeter is survived by his wife; one daughter, Sally Hensley of Spirit Lake, Idaho; one son, Michael Streeter of Priest River; his mother, Martha Streeter of Coeur d’Alene; three brothers, Cliff Streeter of Coeur d’Alene, Ike Streeter of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Juni Streeter of Post Falls; two sisters, Shirley Brockhoff of Spokane and Betty Rhoades of Coeur d’Alene; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Nelson Coeur d’Alene
Service for John L. Nelson, 41, will be held today at 1 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Nelson, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday from injuries received in an automobile accident on U.S. Highway 97 near Powder Horn Bay. He was a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident and was co-owner of J and D Stereo in Coeur d’Alene.
Survivors include his mother, Phyllis Nelson of Coeur d’Alene; three brothers, Dale Nelson of Coeur d’Alene, Alan Nelson of Spokane and Eric Nelson of Boise; and one sister, Linda Nelson of Coeur d’Alene.
George Friedman Colville, Wash.
Funeral service for George Friedman, 79, will be at 2 p.m. today at Colville Assembly of God. Burial will be at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Friedman, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Friday.
He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and married Janice Reed in Pennsylvania in 1945. They moved to Los Angeles where Mr. Friedman had been living before the war. He continued to work in the family grocery store in Los Angeles.
He entered the Air Force at the start of the Korean War, and was stationed east of Colville until 1952.
He and his family moved to Colville in 1955 and he started Friedman’s Supermarket. In 1962, he founded the Thrift Store chain, with grocery stores in Eastern Washington and North Idaho, and in 1980 he opened Friedman’s Excell Store in Colville. He retired in 1989.
Mr. Friedman was a member of the Colville Elks Lodge, the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Benchwarmers, the Board of Directors of United Security Bank and Stevens County Democrats.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; three daughters, Diane Friedman of Colville, and Joyce Woodard and GeorgeAnn Bertholf, both of Spokane; two sons, Reed Friedman of Spokane and Malcom Friedman of Colville; one sister, Virginia Lewis of Los Angeles; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the George Friedman Scholarship Fund, in care of Colville United Security Bank or the Inland Northwest Kidney Center.
Elsie Phillips Spokane
Memorial service for Elsie M. (Haugen) Phillips, 86, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Born in Pine Creek, Minn., Mrs. Phillips died Friday.
She had worked for the Spokane Police Department for several years and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Her husband, John Phillips, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by three sons, Lyle, John and Richard Phillips, all of Spokane; four daughters, Beverly Camacho, Rosalie Jones, Marilee Phillips and Valerie Hall, all of Spokane; and one brother, Fred Haugen of Roseau, Minn.
Jacobus ‘Jake’ Vander Gaag Spokane
Service for Jacobus “Jake” Vander Gaag, 91, will be at 2 p.m. today at the Salvation Army Chapel. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vander Gaag, who died Saturday, was born in Holland.
He was an 85-year Spokane resident and worked as a foreman for the Bohemian Brewery for 18 years, until it closed in 1963. He also worked as a custodian for Spokane School District 81 before retiring in 1970.
He was a member of the Salvation Army and the Moose Lodge.
His wife, Minnie Vander Gaag, died in 1986.
He is survived by daughters, Nancy Burger of Washington and Janet Skogstad of Spokane; two sisters, Nellie Van Schoorl of Spokane and Louise Shjandemaar of California; four grandchildren and two greatgrandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Band.
Vernon Larson Kingston, Idaho
Memorial service for Vernon James Larson, 50, was held Tuesday at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Larson, who was born in New York, died Saturday.
He graduated from high school in New York and moved to the Silver Valley area in 1974. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He moved away from the area in 1985, returning to Kingston in 1994. He worked as a truck driver and was also a maintenance technician for Unitech Composites in Hayden, Idaho.
Mr. Larson was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Royal Arch of the Masons.
Survivors include his wife of four years, Verna; six children, Vernon Larson, Kirsten Larson and Sherry Larson, all of Kirkland, Wash., Lynette McNutt of San Diego, Tina Jennings of Portland and Paige Newton of Texas; four stepchildren, David Dixon, Sandra Troy and Kelly Lockhart, all of Texas, and Charlotte Gregory of Kingston; two brothers, Steve and Dave Larson, both of New York; one sister, Barb Szathmary of New York; and 10 grandchildren.
Timothy Sarbaugh Spokane
Funeral Mass for Timothy J. Sarbaugh, PhD., was Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Mr. Sarbaugh, 42, a Gonzaga University history professor, died Friday from cancer. He was born in Washington, D.C.
He had lived in Spokane since 1986. He married Sarah Rivard in 1991 in Coeur d’Alene.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Catholic Association, the American Conference on Irish Studies and the American Historical Association. He was an ex-officio member of the Executive Board of the Spokane Limerick Sister City Society.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Rivard) Sarbaugh, two sons, Bee and Christopher Sarbaugh, and one daughter, Mary Katherine Sarbaugh, all of Spokane; his mother, Joan Sarbaugh of San Jose, Calif.; and two brothers, Paul and Christopher Sarbaugh, both of San Jose.
Vera ‘Pat’ Turpen Spokane
Service for Vera “Pat” Turpen, 74, was Tuesday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial was at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in Spokane.
Mrs. Turpen, a 50-year Spokane resident, died May 22. She was born in Great Falls, Mont.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse.
Her husband, John Turpen Sr., died in 1969.
She is survived by one daughter, Naoma Mullen of Spokane; three sons, John Turpen Jr. of Auburn, Wash., Richard Turpen of Spokane and Allen Turpen of San Francisco; one sister, Naomi Wiltse of Rathdrum, Idaho; five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
William Mitchell Seattle
Service for William S. “Bill” Mitchell, 72, was May 18 at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle.
Mr. Mitchell, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died May 16.
He served 36 months in the Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.
He married Elaine Hall in 1947. She died in 1980.
Mr. Mitchell owned a paint and glass store in Colville, Wash., and worked for a variety of companies in Seattle.
He and his wife had lived in Colfax, Moses Lake and Colville before moving to Seattle 25 years ago.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by one son, Jeff Mitchell of Seattle; three daughters, Lynn Smith and Ann Gorn, both of Seattle, and Peggy Hauck of Grapevine, Texas; one brother, David Mitchell of Steptoe, Wash.; one sister, Joan Durante of Spokane; and one grandson.

Iona Mayewski Spokane
Memorial service for Iona D. (Motycka) Mayewski, 72, was Tuesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth.
Mrs. Mayewski, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Saturday from cancer.
She moved to Davenport, Wash., as a child and graduated from high school there. She had worked as a waitress at Edie’s Drive-In in Davenport.
She moved to Spokane in 1975 and worked at the Road House Restaurant.
Mrs. Mayewski was a member of the Corbin Center and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Louis Mayewski of Davenport; two daughters, Karen and Jody Mayewski, both of Spokane; one son Roger Mayewski of Spokane; one brother, Albin Motycka of Davenport; and two sisters, Juelanne Ferry and Marlene Yarbrough, both of Spokane.
