The Band Is Back

Los Angeles Daily News

Despite the loss of two founding members, Robbie Robertson and Richard Manuel, the Band carries on, making the sort of rootsy rock ‘n’ roll it popularized almost 30 years ago with “Music From Big Pink.”

The new Band album, “High on the Hog” (Pyramid), includes a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young,” versions of En Vogue’s dance hit, “Free Your Mind,” and J.J. Cale’s “Crazy Mama.”

“After we fulfilled our obligation to our old label, everybody was at a place where they wanted to try different things,” drummer-singer Levon Helm said from Albuquerque, N.M. “Everyone kind of got that bug at the same time.”
