Grant Will Improve Aging Water System

From Staff And Wire Reports

Almost 100 homes near the city of Medical Lake will have their water system improved later this year through a recently awarded federal grant and loan.

The money - $904,000 - will improve aging and degraded water system lines in the Strathview District, about three miles southeast of Medical Lake.

Development in that area has halted because state health officials learned water there was contaminated with iron, copper and manganese entering aging surface lines.

The money will come in the form of a $342,00 loan and a grant of $562,000.

A major portion of that money will create a transmission connection that will bring water from a new Medical Lake city well to the Strathview District.
