Obituaries

James Titus St. Maries

Graveside service for James C. Titus, 82, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Titus, who was born in North Dakota, died Monday.

He moved to St. Maries in 1918 and graduated from St. Maries High School in 1935. He went on to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps, drove a school bus and worked as a lookout in a fire tower for the Forest Service.

He also worked as a forester and for Gambel-O’Dwyer Hardware Stores.

Mr. Titus joined the carpenter’s union and worked at Hanford, Wash., the University of Idaho and Washington State University. He also worked for the Carney Pole Co. and St. Maries Lumber Co. and was an independent logger.

He retired as a security guard at the St. Maries Lumber Co.

Mr. Titus managed the St. Maries Community Garden and was a hunter education instructor.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows, the St. Maries Grange and the St. Maries Senior Citizens.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Emeogene; son, James Titus of St. Maries; two daughters, Geraldine Vannatter of St. Maries and Maxine Larson of Lewiston; stepbrother, Robert Conway of Greenacres; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Gary Davis Mead

No service will be held for Gary S. Davis, 53. Private burial will be at Peone Prairie Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Davis, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

He was an instructor for Spokane Community College and also farmed.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and the Green Bluff Grange.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Lynnette Davis, at home; a son, Wyatt Davis of Berkeley, Calif.; his parents, Samuel and Violet Davis; and his sister, Judy.

Freda Watson Spokane

Service for Freda R. Watson, 94, is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Watson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She married James Watson in 1923.

Mrs. Watson was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and St. Luke Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Jim Watson of Spokane; two daughters, Freda Ekins of Spokane and Miriam Flagg of Kelso, Wash.; a brother, William Eldenburg of Spokane; two sisters, Pauline Hacker of Spokane and Evelyn Heyer of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Kenneth Hicks Spokane

Memorial service for Kenneth Loy Hicks, 39, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at 3123 W. Grandview. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hicks, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and had worked as a nurses’ aid and bartender.

Survivors include his mother, Janet Sala, and sister Rickie Felker, both of Bellingham; and a brother, James Hicks of Spokane.

Patricia DiBartolo Spokane

Visitation for Patricia A. “Patty” DiBartolo, 39, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. DiBartolo died Saturday night after being shot.

She was born in Great Falls, Mont., and moved to Spokane when she was 7.

She graduated from Ferris High School and was a member of the Spokane County Emergency Services Water Rescue Team.

She had worked at Empire Health Services for 11 years and spent the past two years at Telco Credit Union as a loan officer and computer banking expert.

Mrs. DiBartolo’s survivors include her husband of 19 years, Thomas DiBartolo; two sons, Nicholas and Jonathan DiBartolo, both at home; three daughters, Michelle Robinson of Medical Lake and Katrina and Lindsey DiBartolo, both at home; her parents, Floyd and Romona Reeves of Spokane; three sisters, Bobbie Jean Harrison of Medical Lake, Barbara Doheny of Las Vegas, Nev., and Charlotte Rose of Spokane; two brothers, Daniel Reeves of Everett and Michael Doheny of Spokane; and two granddaughters.

Alana Harder Sprague, Wash.

Service for Alana P. Harder, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Burial will follow at Maccabee Cemetery in Sprague, Wash.

Mrs. Harder, a Sprague historian, died Monday at Waterford Health Care Center in Spokane.

She was born at the Fountain Ranch near Lapwai, Idaho, and graduated from Clarkston High School, Lewiston State Normal School and the University of Idaho.

She taught at Grangeville (Idaho) High School for three years before she moved to Spokane, where she briefly taught at Kinman Business University.

She married Max Harder in 1941 in Coeur d’Alene. They raised cattle together at the family farm in Sprague.

Her husband died in 1995.

She was a member of the Southeast Lincoln County Historical Society, the Washington State and National Cattlemen’s Association and the Washington State Farm Bureau.

Survivors include a son, Rex Harder, and daughter, Virginia McKay, both of Sprague; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sprague Ambulance Fire Department or Sprague Emergency Medical Technicians.

Floyd Parks Spokane

Funeral Mass for Floyd L. Parks, 73, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Darien, Wis., Mr. Parks died Sunday.

He served in the Army during World War II and had lived in Spokane since 1941.

He worked as a supervisor and driver for Arden Farms Dairy.

Mr. Parks was a member of St. Thomas More Parish.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Zita Parks; three sons, Michael Parks of Seattle, and Ronald and John Parks, both of Spokane; a daughter, Margie Lyon of Valdez, Alaska; four stepdaughters, Phyllis Lee, Nancy Miller, Pamela Ulrigg and Patricia Bell, all of Spokane; four sisters, Eleanor, Hazel, Dorothy and Lillian; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Duer Nine Mile Falls

Memorial service for Evelyn S. Duer, 63, is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Duer, who died Sunday, was born in Tucson, Ariz.

In 1954, she married Donald Duer in Coeur d’Alene. She had lived in Spokane for 26 years.

She worked as a manager in a medical office.

Mrs. Duer was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association and was a volunteer with Arizona State Parks.

Survivors include her husband; a son, John Duer of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter, Cynthia Vanos of Spokane; her mother, Esther Sutherland of Tucson; two brothers, William Sutherland of Tucson and Ernest Sutherland of Los Angeles; a sister, Erma Hedgepath of Tucson; and four grandchildren.

Jules ‘Drake’ Denoo Spokane

Private service will be held for Jules A. “Drake” Denoo, 87. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Born in Rosalia, Wash., and raised in Tekoa, Wash., Mr. Denoo died Saturday.

He operated butcher shops in Dayton, Wash., and Winchester, Idaho.

During World War II he worked as a civilian on the construction of military facilities in Nevada, Alaska and Oregon.

He came to Spokane 47 years ago and worked in the building trade, renovating old homes and businesses.

His wife, Geraldine, died in 1984.

He is survived by a daughter, Joan Denoo of Spokane; two sisters, Melda Newton of Sagle, Idaho, and Martha Dodson of Boise; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lloyd Widman Spokane

Memorial service for Lloyd Raymond Widman, 87, is planned for 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private inurnment will preceded at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Widman, who died Friday, was born in Rosalia, Wash.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and worked as a fieldman for Spokane Seed Co.

He was a member of Valley Fourth Memorial Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge.

Mr. Widman is survived by his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Shirley Meinke of Richland and Leah Hammerly of Vancouver, Wash.; a son, Larry Widman of Omak, Wash.; three brothers, Marvin, Ellwood and Harold Widman ; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Nettie Moran Spokane

Service for Nettie A. Boyd Moran, 96, is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Spokane Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Boyd, a 76-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

She was born in Spokane and raised in Samuels, Idaho.

She had worked as maid in the Mork Hotel in Hoquiam, Wash., and in Spokane for the Sunshine Biscuit Co. and in the laundry department of Sacred Heart Medical Center.

She was a member of the Spokane Linwood Seventh-day Adventist Church and Golden Years and volunteered with Dorcas.

She is survived by a son, John Boyd of Aberdeen, Wash.; a daughter, Dorothy Rowland of Spokane; a sister, Catherine Taylor of Eugene, Ore.; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Georgia Inman Spokane

Service for Georgia Cleo Inman, 73, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home with burial to follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Born in Naples, Idaho, Mrs. Inman died Sunday.

In 1964, she married Guy Inman in Coeur d’Alene. They moved to Spokane and she was a homemaker.

She was active in the Dorcas Circle at Hillyard Baptist Church and was a member of Community Bible Chapel.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael Deno of San Diego and Robert Deno of Wenatchee; two stepdaughters, Melanie King of Hawaii and Saundra Alton of Spokane; a brother, George Moore of Spokane; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions can be made to Valley Alliance Church.

Merle Guise Spokane

No service will be held for Merle E. Guise, 78, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Guise, who died Friday, was born in New Chester, Pa.

He served in the Navy and Army for a total of 20 years and later worked for the Postal Service. He retired from the Postal Service in Wilbur, Wash.

He had lived in Spokane for 20 years.

His wife, Ellen, died in 1988.

Mr. Guise is survived by two daughters, Nancy and Donna Guise, both of Spokane; three sons, Edwin Guise of Spokane, Roger Guise of Olympia and James Guise of New Hampshire; and three grandchildren.

Martha Stumbough Spokane

Visitation for Martha A. Stumbough, 85, is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Stumbough, who died Sunday, was born in Aurora, Neb., and had lived in Spokane for 54 years.

She was raised in the Midwest and graduated from high school in Wyoming. She moved to Spokane in 1942 and in the 1960s worked in food service at Eastern State Hospital.

She was also a leader in the Orchard Prairie and Windsor 4-H groups for more than 25 years and was a member of Marshall Community Church and Windsor Grange.

Her husband of 53 years, Homer Stumbough, died in 1985.

Mrs. Stumbough is survived by two sons, Ronald Stumbough of Veradale and Bernie Stumbough of Spokane; a daughter, Lyla Morgenstern of Spokane; two sisters, Iva Meyers of Skamokawa, Wash., and Letha Aylor of Bakersfield, Calif.; two brothers, Chester Hutchinson of Pasco and Calvin Hutchinson of Fruitland, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Boniface Gotfredson Spokane

Memorial service for Boniface O. Gotfredson, 93, will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Inurnment will be at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Columbarium. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gotfredson, who died Saturday, was born in Traverse City, Mich.

She had lived in Spokane since 1966 and was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Her husband, Henry, died in 1980.

She is survived by a son, William Gotfredson of Liberty Lake; a daughter, Anna Guiles of Spokane; a sister, Gayle Campbell of Seattle; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Columbarium Fund.
