Nextlink Takes Steps To Create Hub Here

From Staff And Wire Reports

Nextlink has hired a new general manager and will consolidate its two Spokane offices to position the center as the hub of its Northwest telephone operations.

Marcea Mandsager becomes general manager. She had been branch sales and service manager for US West Communications for 10 years.

“Marcea possess the skill and experience to effectively lead Nextlink to succeed in the radically changing telecommunications industry,” said Greg Green, president of Nextlink’s Washington operations.

He said Nextlink will bring the staff from its 155 S. Stevens offices into expanded quarters in the U.S. Bank Building.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Born said the company will add 10 employees to the 40 already on staff by the end of 1997.

In that same time period, 40 buildings will have been connected to the $10 million fiber-optic cable system Nextlink has built in downtown Spokane, she added.

Green said Nextlink is looking to Seattle, Tacoma, Boise and Portland for expansion. The company operates in six states.
