Gu Women Snare Exhibition Victory; Vandals Stumble

Lydia Ledgerwood scored 14 points and Melissa McCullough added 12 Friday night as Gonzaga scrambled back from a 10-point second-half deficit to edge Sweden’s Team Brahe 64-60 in a women’s basketball exhibition at Martin Centre.

Idaho’s women didn’t fare as well, dropping their season-opening exhibition 65-53 to Simon Fraser at Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho.

GU, which received 11 rebounds from center Sydney Perno, trailed Brahe 52-42 with just under 9 minutes left in the game, but used six straight points by Ledgerwood and baskets by Perno and Sandy Gere to tie the game at 52 with 4:33 remaining. The Bulldogs then outscored Brahe 6-2 in the final minute to pick up the victory.

Former Gonzaga standout Kyle Dixon scored 15 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the visiting NBC Thunder from falling to Kansas State 80-63 in a college men’s basketball exhibition.
