Lindros Cleared For Play

From Wire Reports

Around the NHL

Eric Lindros, the Philadelphia Flyers’ star center, has been cleared to play and could return as soon as today.

Lindros has missed the first 22 games with a nagging groin injury he sustained at the World Cup of Hockey in September. Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi examined him again Wednesday and declared him ready to play.

“It’s up to Eric,” Flyers spokesman Joe Klueg said.

Avalanche roll on

Valeri Kamensky scored two goals and NHL scoring co-leaders Peter Forsberg and Joe Sakic had an assist each as the Colorado Avalanche beat the New York Islanders 3-2 Friday night in Denver.

Kamensky scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season for the Avalanche, 11-1-3 in their last 15 games.

Chris Simon scored a pair of power-play goals and Olaf Kolzig made 38 saves as the Washington Capitals broke a 10-game winless streak against New Jersey with a 5-1 victory at East Rutherford, N.J.

The Capitals had gone 0-9-1 against the Devils in their 10 previous meetings.
