Chrysler Breaks U.S. Sales Record
Chrysler Corp. has broken its annual U.S. sales record with five weeks still to go in 1996.
The No. 3 domestic automaker said Monday that its sales totaled 2,214,289 through Friday. The previous record was 2,208,057 for all of 1988.
Chrysler has been boosted by a strong line of pickups, minivans and sport utility vehicles - the fastest-growing segment of the automotive market.
Through the end of October, Chrysler’s U.S. sales were running 15 percent ahead of a year ago, when it sold 2,164,343 cars and trucks. The company has set six monthly sales records and three quarterly records so far this year.
