John ‘Bud’ Rhoad Poulsbo, Wash.

Service for John H. “Bud” Rhoad, a former Spokane resident, is set for 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Rhoad died Saturday. He was 76.

He graduated from North Central High School and played goalie for the Gonzaga University hockey team.

Mr. Rhoad married Louise Hanson in 1941.

He joined the Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.

In Spokane he worked for Buchanan Chevrolet, Boston Garage, Big West Oil and Yellowstone Pipe Line.

He and his wife moved to LaPush, Wash., in 1966 and to Port Angeles, Wash., in 1972. He retired to Poulsbo, where he served as port commissioner for four years.

Mr. Rhoad helped establish the Lilac City Golf Tournament in Spokane in 1960.

His wife preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son, John Rhoad of Spokane; a daughter, Vicki Van Slyke of Poulsbo, Wash.; a sister, June Amsden of Spokane; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Douglas Nelson Spokane

Service for Douglas Edward Nelson, 39, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Missoula, Mr. Nelson died Saturday when he was hit by a truck in north Spokane.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 31 years and worked for Excell Foods at three local stores.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was an usher.

He is survived by his mother, Monica Nelson at home; a sister, Karen Richards of Spokane; and a stepbrother, Danny Fry of Montana.

Orin ‘Lee’ Schuster Spokane

Vigil service for Orin “Lee” Schuster, 66, is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Schuster, a retired Burlington Northern Railway engineer, died Saturday.

He was born in Seattle and had lived in Spokane for more than 20 years.

Mr. Schuster was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Washington State University Cougar Club. He also was a former director of the Spokane Lilac Festival and was formerly active in the Miss Spokane Pageant.

His wife, Lynne Schuster, died in July.

He is survived by a daughter, Kellie Raftis of Everett; and a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington State University Veterinary Hospital or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Ira Bruce Mead

Memorial service for Ira Victor Bruce, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at North Addison Baptist Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bruce, who was born in Garnett, Kan., died Saturday.

He was an Army World War II veteran and retired with a rank of sergeant first-class.

He then worked for the Postal Service.

Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elfriede (Roessel) Bruce; a son, Roy Bruce of Spokane; a sister, Norma Newberry of Wellington, Kan.; and a granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

William Kuehne Keller, Wash.

Service for William G. “Bill” Kuehne, 74, was Tuesday at Keller Community Center. Burial was at Keller Cemetery.

Mr. Kuehne died Friday. He was born in Spokane and lived in Keller most of his life.

He graduated from Wilbur (Wash.) High School and attended Washington State College.

In 1949, he married Berniece Thiele in Republic, Wash. He ranched with his brother, Henry, for many years.

Mr. Kuehne was active with the Keller Junior Rodeo and was one of the original promoters of the rodeo in that area. He served a term as County Commissioner and was currently a Ferry County P.U.D. Commissioner.

He served on the WPPSS Board and was a member of the National Cattleman’s Association and the Washington State Cattleman’s Association.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Billie Jean Timm of Okanogan, Wash.; a brother, Henry Kuehne of Keller; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington State Cattleman’s Association or the Ferry County Fair Association.

Dorothy Yoho Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Dorothy Elaine Yoho, 68, is planned for 1 p.m. today at the Nazarene Church of Ritzville. There will be private burial at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Yoho died Sunday.

She was born in Nenzel, Neb.

She moved to Hope, Idaho, with her family when she was young.

In 1952, she married Bruce Yoho in Coeur d’Alene.

She was a homemaker and moved to Ritzville from Sandpoint in 1967.

She was a member of the Grandmothers Club, the Ritzville Eagles Lodge and was an auxiliary member of American Legion C.J. Newland Post No. 51. She was also a volunteer at the Ritzville Food Bank. Her husband died in 1992.

Mrs. Yoho is survived by six daughters, Dollie Howell of Sandpoint, Vickie Cooper of Lind, Wash., Marie Kittilstved and Barbara Jones, both of Spokane, Bonnie Bay of Glendale, Ariz., and Mary Ann Larson of Monroe, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Karen Austing of Montana and Pam Crouse of Idaho; two stepsons, Bruce Yoho of California and Gary Yoho of Texas; a sister, Minnie Simmet of Hope, Idaho, and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Moses Lake Hospice.

Bertram Lipsker Spokane

Funeral Mass for Bertram H. Lipsker, 78, was Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Private inurnment was at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Lipsker, a 12-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in Alameda, Calif., and attended the University of Utah.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was employed by United Airlines for 38 years until he retired in 1982.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and was a founder of the Knights of Columbus chapter at the church. He served on the board of the Manito Lions Club and was active in the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

His wife of 43 years, Anne Marie Lipsker, preceded him in death.

He is survived by four sons, Greg, Timm, Marc and Glen Lipsker, all of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Manito Lions Club.

Luella Rach Spokane

Service for Luella Rach, 85, is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Rach, who died Sunday, was born in Butler, Minn.

She married Edward Rach in Moorhead, Minn., in 1940.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane since 1940. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Her husband died in 1988.

She is survived by three sons, LeRoy Rach of Nine Mile Falls, and Norman Goldschmitz and Gene Holman, both of Minnesota; two daughters, Joanne Cecil and Marilou Pierce, both of Minnesota; a brother, Lyle Swenson of Elk; a sister, Olga McGrady of Minnesota; and eight grandchildren.

Larry Haskins Spokane

Memorial service for Larry J. Haskins, 49, was held Saturday in Ione, Wash.

Mr. Haskins died Nov. 18 from heart failure.

He was born in Ione and graduated from Ione High School. He had lived in Spokane for 19 years and worked in the food service industry for the Town and Country and the Rodeo Restaurant.

He is survived by five brothers, Donald Haskins of Medical Lake, Zenas Haskins of Ione, Thomas Haskins of Washougal, Wash., and Michael and Ronald Haskins, both of Montana.

Lucile Gilliland Harrington, Wash.

Memorial service for Lucile C. Gilliland, 95, is set for 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, Wash. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Iowa, Mrs. Gilliland died Friday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Davenport, the Bluestem Grange and was a former member of the American Hemerocallis Society.

Her husband, William Gilliland, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters, Alexis Gilliland of Arlington, Va., Laura Greenberg of Phoenix, Ariz., and Astha Ruth Fryer of Western Australia; two sons, Paul Gilliland of Harrington and Walter Gilliland of Goshen, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Irene Schmidt Davenport, Wash.

Graveside service for Irene (Helblig) Chrisman Schmidt, 90, is set for noon today at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Davenport. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schmidt, who was born in Greensburg, Ind., died Sunday at the Lincoln Nursing Home in Davenport.

She married Samuel Chrisman in 1929 and they moved to Indian Creek, northwest of Davenport, in 1931.

Her husband died in 1966.

She lived on the family farm until she married Jack Schmidt in 1980. He died in 1985.

She was a member of the Davenport Assembly of God church, the Larene Ladies Club and the Wilson Grange.

She is survived by three sons, George Chrisman of Davenport, Gordon Chrisman of Olympia and Merlin Chrisman of Creston, Wash.; two daughters, Barbara White of The Dalles, Ore., and Arlou Ives of Creston; a stepdaughter, Kay Clayton of Seattle; 16 grandchildren, 15 greatgrandchildren, one stepgrandson and one great-great-grandson.

Albert Squire Wilbur, Wash.

Memorial service for Albert V. Squire, 98, was Monday at Wilbur Lutheran Church.

Mr. Squire, who was born in Almira, Wash., died Friday.

He was a retired rancher and a World War I Navy veteran.

His wife, Lela Squire, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son, Larry Squire of Edmonds, Wash.; three daughters, Loyce Tyler of LaPine, Ore., Kaye Squire of Lakeland Village in Spokane and Norma Robertson of Wilbur; a sister, Bernice Helseth of Spokane; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Kermit Anderson Spokane

Memorial service for Kermit E. Anderson, 78, is set for 1 p.m. today at Gretna Green Chapel. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Anderson, a 60-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in Corfu, Wash., and graduated from Othello (Wash.) High School.

He was employed as a welder and had worked on the construction of the Hanford Atomic Plant and at the Union Iron Works/Coeur d’Alenes Company and at Star Steel.

He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Iron Workers Union and the Boiler Makers Unions of Spokane and Seattle.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Hazel Anderson; three sons, Kermit, Kevin and Kim Anderson, all of Spokane; two daughters, Karen Spellman of Ellensburg and Kay Anderson of Houston; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Turbak Smelterville, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Marjorie A. Turbak, 88, will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Turbak, who was born in South Dakota, died Sunday.

She moved to the Silver Valley in 1936 and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Turbak was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1955. Survivors include two sons, Gene of Kellogg and Jack of Smelterville; four daughters, Rita Johnson of Spokane, Lois Bening of Coeur d’Alene, Carol Bottinelli of Deer Park and Janice Crall of Kellogg; 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Terry Riley Spokane

No service will be held for Terry P. Riley, 73, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Riley, who was born in Czechoslovakia, died Thursday.

She had lived in Spokane for more the 40 years and worked as a counselor and consultant in gerontology.

She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 and served in World War II in the 88th Army Division.

She is survived by a son, Allen Riley, and a daughter, Shirley Ann Mitchell, both of Spokane; a brother, Ernsti Plischeck of Germany; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
