Art Manley Honored For Conservation Efforts
Art Manley, former state senator and local conservationist, was recently honored by the Lt. George Farragut Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for his many years of local conservation efforts.
Manley, who was instrumental in acquiring large quantities of land for public use, including McEuen Play Field, Tubbs Hill and water access on Coeur d’Alene Lake and the Spokane River adjacent to North Idaho College, received the DAR Conservation Medal and Certificate.
He has worked to secure four separate property purchases over a 40-year span to acquire the 135-acre public park in downtown Coeur d’Alene.
Margaret Sheridan, Coeur d’Alene, and Trudy Chisholm, Hayden, both recently attended the 75th annual La Marche Nationale celebration as members of the Eight and Forty, a subsidiary organization of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Sheridan was past Western Division demi chapeau nationale passe (first vice president) for 1995-96 and currently holds the local position of le demi chapeau premiere (first vice president) and state la secretaire-caissiere (secretary-treasurer), while Chisholm is the current local le chapeau (president) and national ritual and emblem chairman for 1996-97. Both are members of the Salon (Local) No. 592.
The purpose of the Nationale Marche was to elect officers for the coming year, amend the national constitution, bylaws and standing rules and to receive reports of the national officers and chairmen. The Eight and Forty promotes the prevention and control of respiratory diseases in children and contributes to the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation, the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine in Denver and nursing scholarships.
