Author, Cartoonist To Speak At Nic

Award-winning journalist and author Jess Walter is the keynote speaker at a journalism conference Monday at North Idaho College.

Editorial cartoonist Milt Priggee also is a scheduled speaker at the second annual conference, sponsored by the college, the Idaho Press Club, the Coeur d’Alene Press and The Idaho Spokesman-Review.

Although geared toward high school and college journalists, all presentations are open to the public.

Walter, former Spokesman-Review reporter and author of Every Knee Shall Bow and co-author of In Contempt, will deliver a keynote address at 9 a.m. in Boswell Hall. Priggee’s presentation on editorial cartooning and free speech begins at 1:30 p.m. in the same auditorium.

Between those presentations, professional journalists, public relations experts and broadcasters will offer various workshops. Topics include writing, newspaper design, using the Internet and photography.
