Obituaries

Andrew Tidrick Pullman

Graveside service for K. Andrew Tidrick, a former Pullman High School and Mead High School principal, will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tidrick, 81, died Wednesday at Latah Health Services in Moscow, Idaho.

He was born in Chicago. He moved to Seattle with his mother when he was 5.

Following high school, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in forestry and as a cook. He graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in forestry.

He married Marjorie Rush, whom he met while attending WSU, in 1941.

Mr. Tidrick served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in Japan.

Following the war, he and his wife moved from Spokane to Pullman. He worked in the athletic department at WSU and also began studying for his master’s degree.

In 1947 he received his master’s degree and taught for a year at Pullman High School. He also coached basketball and football there.

Mr. Tidrick served as principal at Mead High School in Spokane for eight years and also in Walla Walla before returning to Pullman, where he was principal from 1963 to 1967.

He was a member of several education honoraries, the Good Fellows and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Steve Tidrick of Beaverton, Ore.; a daughter, Sherri Ann Somers of Johnstown, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Sherwood Swann II Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Sherwood Bertram Swann II, 77, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Community Bible Church of Colfax. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Swann died Saturday at Whitman Hospital.

He was born in Racine, Wis., and graduated from high school there.

He graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with a degree in paleontology.

He was involved with archeological digs throughout the United States in the 1940s while working for the University of California. He spent some time in Peru, where he was married briefly and where his daughter, Alicia, was born.

He later lived in Madison, Wis., attended the University of Wisconsin and worked at Madison Hospital.

In 1953 he married Alice Rader in Spokane.

They operated a nursing home in Spokane for a few years before they moved to Osburn, Idaho, where Mr. Swann worked for Bunker Hill Mining as a chemist.

They lived in Colfax from 1970 to 1981. They moved to Western Washington before returning to Colfax in April.

His wife died in May.

Mr. Swan was a member of the Alumni Association of the University of California-Berkeley.

Survivors include two daughters, Alicia Pinto of Florida and Kalea Swan of Edmonds, Wash.; a son, Ross Swan of Steptoe, Wash.; eight granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Whitman Hospital Foundation or the Whitman Convalescent Center, both in Colfax.

Eunice Cutler Clark Fork, Idaho

Service for Eunice Susanna Cutler, 92, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Clark Fork. Burial will follow at Clark Fork Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cutler, who was born in New Leipzig, N.D., died Thursday.

She moved to Butte, Mont., in 1937, and to Clark Fork in 1956.

Survivors include a son, Charley Cutler of Twin Falls, Idaho; three daughters, Shirley McMillan of Shelton, Wash., and Evelyn Lyon and Dorothy Russell, both of Clark Fork; four sisters, Millie Boling of Missouri, Tyna Torni of Michigan, and Elma Scuichetti and Impi Curtis, both of Montana; one brother, Everett Kytonen of Colville, Wash.; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the North Idaho Cancer Center in Coeur d’Alene or the Bonner Community Hospice in Sandpoint.

Dale Bowers Othello, Wash.

A gathering for Dale Alexander Bowers, 57, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello. Vault burial will follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bowers died Thursday.

He was born in Nazareth, Texas.

In 1964 he married Lynda Hampton in Coeur d’Alene.

He worked in the concrete business and was recently employed at Triple A Ready Mix in Moses Lake. He also farmed for the past 32 years in Othello.

Mr. Bowers was a member of the Othello School Board, the Lions Club and the Othello Rodeo Association.

He had served as commissioner for Adams County Fire District No. 5 for 10 years and helped organized the first Toastmasters Club in Othello.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years; a daughter, Alexis “Bunni” Carter of Spokane; a son, Todd Bowers of Seattle; four brothers, George Bowers of Opie, Kan., Robert Bowers of El Paso, Texas, Charles Bowers of Perry, Okla., and Sid Bowers of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three sisters, Betty Hollenbeck of Othello, Roberta Klayman of Tulia, Texas, and Carolyn Weber of Onalaska, Texas; and a granddaughter.

Milton Brinkman Spokane

Graveside service for Milton E. Brinkman, 78, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will follow at at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brinkman, who died Thursday, was born in Minot, N.D., and moved to Spokane as an infant.

He graduated form North Central High School and served in the Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Brinkman worked as a buyer for Zellerbach Paper Co., and retired in 1980.

He was a member of the Spokane Dahlia Society, St. John Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. He was also involved with the Lutheran Hour radio program.

His wife of 45 years, Shirley Brinkman, died in August.

He is survived by a son, Eric Brinkman, and a daughter, Judy Luft, both of Spokane; a sister, Meta Eash of Spokane; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or Spokane Lutheran School.

Josephine Bakes Spokane

Service for Josephine A. Bakes, 79, was Monday at the Tenth Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial was at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Bakes, who was born in Boise, died Thursday.

She graduated from Boise High School, Boise Junior College and Link’s Business College.

During World War II she moved with her husband, who was in the Navy, and lived in Mississippi, Texas and Whidbey Island, Wash.

She and her family lived in Pullman, from 1949 to 1954, and then moved to Spokane. They were transferred to Wallace in 1957 and returned to Spokane in 1966.

Mrs. Bakes was a 4-H Club leader a Future Homemakers of America (FHA) advisor, a member of the Women of Water Power and the Spokane Club.

She volunteered at the Spokane Public Library in the Latter-day Saints genealogical library.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rich; a son, Warren Bakes of Post Falls; a daughter, Joyce Roskelley of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Lottie Grubich Kellogg

Visitation for Lottie Grubich, 85, will be today from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah in Pinehurst, Idaho, 106 Division St. Private family burial will precede the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg.

Mrs. Grubich, who was born in Metaline Falls, Wash., died Friday.

She moved to North Idaho in 1930 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Grubich was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1972. Survivors include two sons, Stanley Grubich of Kellogg and Joseph Grubich of Spokane; two daughters, Rose Wojohn of Spokane and Marie Streeter of Coeur d’Alene; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Iris (Brown) Moore Panorama City, Wash.

Graveside service for Iris Marie (Brown) Moore, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pullman City Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Moore, a former longtime Pullman resident, died Thursday.

She was born near Warrensburg, Mo.

She was raised and educated in Montana. In 1925 she married Emmett Moore in Bozeman, Mont.

They moved to Pullman in 1929, and her husband joined the faculty of the civil engineering department at Washington State University.

While in Pullman, Mrs. Moore was a member of St. James Episcopal Church guilds, Chi Omega sorority and the WSU Civil Engineering Department wives’ group. She was also an assistant in floriculture at WSU.

She and her husband moved to Panorama City, Wash., in 1970.

Her husband preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Emmett Moore Jr.; two granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

James Mertens Spokane

Visitation for James F. Mertens, 61, is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Mertens died Wednesday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School.

He received a master’s degree in biology and chemistry.

He taught at East Valley High School, Gonzaga Prep, Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma and in Prescott, Wash. He taught for a total of 28 years and was primarily a biology teacher.

Mr. Mertens also coached football and taught social studies.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Mertens; three sons, Marty, Kevin and John Mertens; two daughters, Paula Crowley and Mary Geiselman; three stepchildren, Robert Christiansen, Patty Handley and Jane Holdahl; five brothers; one sister; numerous grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Berniece Frick Rosalia, Wash.

Visitation for Berniece Frick, 85, will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. today at Rosalia Christian Church. Service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at International Order of Odd Fellows Evergreen Cemetery in Rosalia. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Rosalia is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Frick, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Friday.

She was a member of the Rosalia Christian Church, Garden Club, Rosalia Senior Citizens, Order of Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl Frick; three sons, Alvin Frick of Seattle, Larry Frick of Spokane and Dudley Frick of Rosalia; two daughters, Adele Lautenslager of Renton, Wash., and Melanie MacDonald of Auburn, Wash.; two brothers, Quentin Clark of Sumner, Wash., and Dudley Clark of Basin City, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Rosalia Ambulance Fund.

Anna Olson Mullan, Idaho

Service for Anna Marie Olson, 80, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mullan. Shoshone Funeral Service in Wallace is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Olson, who was born in Max, N.D., died Friday.

She moved to North Idaho in 1937 and had worked as a dietician at Good Samaritan Center in Silverton, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mullan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1992.

Survivors include three sons, Gary of Spokane, Don of Colville, Wash., and Craig of Mullan; daughter, Janet Comstock of California; three sisters, Emma Metzker of Montana, Olga Mavis of North Dakota and Dorraine Gerlitz of Oregon; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Harold Page Sr. Spokane

Service for Harold R. Page Sr., 71, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. A reception will follow at Spokane Valley Eagle’s Lodge No. 3433.

Mr. Page, who died Friday, was born in Leominster, Mass.

He served in the Air Force during World War II and retired after 20 years. He then worked at Fairchild Air Force Base for 13 years with the civil service.

He was a member of the Spokane Valley Eagles Lodge, El Katif Shrine, Spokane Valley Shrine Club, Orchard 200 and the Scottish Rite.

His wife, Margaret Page, died in June .

Mr. Page is survived by four sons, Harold Page Jr. of North Pole, Alaska, Thomas Page of Veradale, Alan Page of Mount Hope, Kan., and Michael Page of Haxton, Colo.; four daughters, Patricia Andrus of Pittsford, N.Y., Carol Anne Davis of Odessa, Texas, Julie Thornberry of Sheridan, Ark., and Shanon Page-Schwartzman of Superior, Mont.; three brothers, Nelson and Stanley Page, both of Virginia, and James Page of Florida; a sister, Mildred Nadeau of New Hampshire; and numerous grandchildren.

Frances ‘Olive’ Fuller Coeur d’Alene

Service for Frances “Olive” Fuller, 73, will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Fuller, who was born in British Columbia, died Saturday.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1952 and had worked in the North Idaho Homemaker Program since 1979. She received the Outstanding Staff Person of the Aging Network in 1991.

She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.

Mrs. Fuller was preceded in death by her husband, Volney.

Survivors include two sons, Rob Mathes of Coeur d’Alene and Rodney Jessick of Spokane; two daughters, Suzanne Jessick of Coeur d’Alene and Loretta Symms of Washington, D.C.; three sisters; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Albert ‘Bush’ Wendel Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Vigil service for Albert William “Bush” Wendel, 85, will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Mass will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Mr. Wendel, who was born in Porthill, Idaho, died Sunday.

He moved to Bonners Ferry in 1914 from the family homestead at the base of Hall Mountain. He lived at a new homestead south of Bonners Ferry until 1994.

Mr. Wendel was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his brother, Arthur “Bill” Wendel of Spokane; a twin sister, Francis “Sis” Mace of Bonners Ferry; three nephews, Larry, Robert and John; and three nieces, Donna, Janet and Glenda.

Gladys Peterschick Spokane

Visitation for Gladys Peterschick, 96, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Peterschick died Thursday.

She was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., and had lived in Spokane for 87 years.

During World War II, she worked at Sears.

She was a homemaker and a Lutheran.

Her husband, Edwin Peterschick, died in 1972.

She is survived by a son, Donald Peterschick of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Lowell Meyers Kettle Falls, Wash.

Service for Lowell G. Meyers, 84, will be at 10 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash.

Mr. Meyers, who died Tuesday, was born in Grandy, Neb. He was a rancher and farmer and had lived in the Kettle Falls area since 1950.

He was a member of Colville Nazarene Church and the Greenwood Grange.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Violet Meyers; a daughter, Sandy Ferguson of Colville; a son, Tim Meyers of Kettle Falls; four brothers, Glen and Warren Meyers, both of Colville, Bill Meyers of Kettle Falls and Floyd Meyers of Pocatello, Idaho; a sister, Bernice Adkins of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Emma Honn Benge, Wash.

Service for Emma Louise Honn, a homemaker, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash.

Mrs. Honn, 76, died Wednesday.

She was born in Benge, and was a member of the Benge Community Church, the Ralston Grange, Adams County Cattlewomen’s Association and the Adams County Wheat Growers Association.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Keith; two sons, Bruce Honn of Benge and Larry Honn of Winona, Wash.; a daughter, Nancy Lou Allen of Wasco, Ore.; three sisters, Virginia Gregory and Anita Haspedis, both of Spokane, and Mary Ann McWilliams of Roseville, Calif.; three brothers, Wilbur Kent of Tekoa, Wash., and Herbert and Alfred Kent, both of Benge; and six grandchildren.

Ina Labo Spokane

Visitation for Ina H. Labo, 90, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Riverside Memorial Park.

Born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, Mrs. Labo died Thursday in Shelton, Wash., where she had lived for a month.

In Spokane, she was a member of Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church and was church organist for many years.

She was a member of Project Joy, a band made up of senior citizens in the Spokane area. She was active in bowling leagues and was secretary of many different leagues.

Her husband, Kenneth Labo, preceded her in death.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Donald Piper Spokane

Memorial service for Donald A. Piper, 64, was Monday at Church of the Resurrection.

Mr. Piper, who was born in Medical Lake, died Thursday at home.

He worked as a janitor and had served in the National Guard.

Mr. Piper is survived by a brother, Bobby Wadsworth, Spokane; two sons, Richard Steinhausen of Tacoma and Bart Piper of Spokane; three daughters, Terry Tedder of Enumclaw, Wash., and Jill and Jackie Piper, both of Spokane; three stepchildren, Dee Quarrels of Sacramento, Calif., Randy Mayer of Grand Terrace, Calif., and Terry Shepard of Spokane; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Aileen White Spokane

Service for Aileen White, 82, was Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Cremation followed.

Mrs. White, who was born in Kansas, died Thursday.

She had lived in Spokane in the 1950s, and returned again in 1974.

She was an elementary school teacher and taught naval dependents in Japan and Italy. She retired in 1974.

She graduated from Northwest Nazarene College and was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by two nieces, Susan Riley of Harrisburg, Pa., and Sharon Nelson of Glenwood, Md.

James Van Dyke Mead

No service will be held for James H. Van Dyke, 72, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of cremation.

Born in Malden, Wash., Mr. Van Dyke died Friday.

He had lived in Mead since 1955.

He had been the manager of the plant department at Spokane Flower Growers wholesale florist for 31 years before retiring in 1986.

Mr. Van Dyke was a member of the Beacon Rebekah Lodge 91 in Mead and Wilford International Order of Odd Fellows 269 in Millwood.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Van Dyke; two daughters, Kathy McLean and Judy Van Dyke, both of Spokane; a son, Kenneth Van Dyke of Mead; a brother, Wesley Van Dyke of Newport, Wash.; a sister, Darla Easley of Chattaroy; and two grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
