Jeannette ‘Jay’ (Barber) LaFore Portland

Memorial Mass for M. Jeannette “Jay” LaFore, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Spokane. Private inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. LaFore, a former nurse and Spokane resident, died Monday in Portland from complications due to diabetes.

Born in Kellogg, she graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a nurse before she married Floyd LaFore in 1950.

She moved to Spokane as a child and remained here until 1964, when she moved to Milwaukie, Ore. She returned to Spokane in 1975 and moved to Portland in 1991.

She was a homemaker and had worked as a census taker and part-time for the American Heart Association. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.

Her husband died in 1982.

Mrs. LaFore is survived by a daughter, Nancy Wills of Gresham, Ore.; two sisters, Fran Green of Avila Beach, Calif., and Anita Anderson of Park Ridge, Ill., and three grandchildren.

Lloyd Hanson Spokane

No local service will be held for Lloyd Melvin Hanson. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the National Military Cemetery at Fort Harrison in Helena. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hanson, who was born in Mobridge, S.D., died Thursday. He was 72.

He moved to Harlowtown, Mont., from South Dakota when he was six.

He served in the Army during World War II in the Combat and Amphibious Engineers and received a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in Velletri, Italy. He later served in Rome and in France, and was present for the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp.

Mr. Hanson was a conductor for the Milwaukee Railroad for 38 years and was the local chairman for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and general chairman for United Transportation Union for 16 years.

He was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Marcie; a son, Dennis Hanson of Clarkston, Wash.; two sisters, Marie Berg of Harlowtown, Mont., and Laura Hasse of The Dalles, Ore.; and four brothers, Dean Hanson of Missoula, Bob Hanson of Helena, Don Hanson of San Diego and John Hanson of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.

Marie (Ray) Walker Spokane

Funeral Mass for Marie (Ray) Walker, 77, is set for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walker, who died Thursday, was born in Frenchtown, Mont., and was a 45-year Spokane resident.

She was a school teacher and was a member of several bridge clubs, the Tri Delta Alumni, Spokane Pan-Hellenic, St. John’s Cathedral Altar Guild, the Spokane Club, Manito Country Club and Priest Lake (Idaho) Yacht Club.

Her husband of 35 years, Hal Walker, died last Saturday.

She is survived by a son, Andrew Walker of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Walker of Portland; and two grandchildren.

Leona Bittner Spokane

Funeral Mass for Leona A. Bittner, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church. Private inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bittner, who died Wednesday, was born in Philadelphia.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 31 years.

She married Marvin Bittner in Philadelphia in 1941.

Mrs. Bittner was a member of Assumption Catholic Parish, the Wi Nu Ke Garden Club, Eagles Lodge No. 2, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Guild.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Gary Bittner of York, Pa.; a daughter, Alicia Carter of Pasco; and three grandchildren.

Irma Breakey Spokane

A gathering for Irma J. Breakey, 82, will be at noon Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Breakey, who died Monday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

She was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and had served as the church treasurer as well as an elder and deaconess. She was also involved with the church women’s association.

Her husband, Willard Breakey, died in 1987.

She is survived by a son, James Breakey of Spokane; a stepson, Don Breakey of Brush Prairie, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Bade of Tum Tum, Wash.; a brother, Herbert Slate of Cape Cod, Mass.; and three granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Avery Lehman Spokane

Service for Avery L. Lehman, 84, will be at 4 p.m. today at Salem Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lehman, who was born in Olympia, died Wednesday.

He worked as a ship fitter in the Bremerton Naval Yards, and moved to Spokane 22 years ago.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter No. 32.

Mr. Lehman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Lehman; two daughters, Donna Wuesthoff of Waitts Lake, Wash., and Lila Middleton of Ione, Wash.; two brothers, James Rennick of Olympia and Harold Rennick of Hadlock, Wash.; three sisters, Margaret Holman of Port Townsend, Wash., Alice Overton of Clovis, Calif., and Carolyn Smith of Shelton, Wash.; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Kerus Bean Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Kerus L. Bean, 90, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Wilbur (Wash.) Cemetery.

Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bean, who died Wednesday, was born in Wilbur.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

He was also a member of the local grange.

He had lived in the Chewelah area since 1961, and retired from farming in the Bluecreek area.

He is survived by his wife, Elain Bean; two sons, Dennis Bean of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Bill McDonell of Chewelah; a daughter, Shirley Parker of Chewelah; a sister, Nina Rettkowski of Wilbur; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Todd Maine Spokane

Service for Todd Allan Maine, 32, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Maine, a Shadle Park High School graduate, died Wednesday.

He was a lifetime Spokane resident.

He is survived by his parents, Allan and Margaret Maine of Spokane; and a sister, Pamela Harrison.

Patsy Thayer Spokane

No service will be held for Patsy V. Thayer. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thayer, 57, died Thursday.

She was born in Missoula and had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Thayer; and a daughter, Debbie Davenport of Spokane.

Fredolf Nelson Sandpoint

Service for Fredolf John Nelson, 90, will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nelson, who was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, died Wednesday.

He had worked on a wheat farm in Montana, where he broke horses, before moving to Colburn, Idaho, in 1937.

He had farmed with horses and operated a dairy farm from 1948 to 1971, when he retired. He moved to Sandpoint in 1981.

Mr. Nelson had served on the Co-op Board of Directors for 25 years and was active in the Dairy Breeders Association, the Eagles Lodge and the Elks Club. He was also a member of the First Christian Church in Sandpoint.

Survivors include a brother, Leonard Nelson of Spokane; and one sister, Clara Edison of Pasco.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Bonner Community Hospice.

Daniel Everts Spokane

Memorial service for Daniel Dale Everts, 35, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of the Nazarene. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Everts, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Oct. 5.

He attended Rogers High School and was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible.

He is survived by his parents, Darrell and Joanne Everts; two brothers, Richard Butterfield and Scott Everts, and a sister, Shelly Sousa, all of Spokane.
