Frontrunners: Danny Wuerrfel, QB, Florida, threw for 277 yards and three TDs and ran for a another in a 56-13 win over LSU. He now has 92 career TD passes, good for second place on the Division I-A list…. Troy Davis, RB, Iowa State, rushed 39 times for a season-low 130 yards in a 24-21 loss to Texas A&M, but remains on track to become the first player with more than one 2,000-yard season…. Byron Hanspard, RB, Texas Tech, carried 37 times for 190 yards and caught a TD pass in a 30-17 win over Kansas.
Staying alive: Steve Sarkisian QB, Brigham Young, threw for 400 yards and four TDs and ran for another in a 63-28 rout of UNLV…. Peyton Manning, QB, Tennessee, passed for 371 yards and two touchdowns in a 29-17 victory over Georgia.
Too good to ignore: Marcus Harris, WR, Wyoming, had eight catches for 137 yards and two TDs. He averages nine catches and 140 yards per game…. Orlando Pace, OL, Ohio State: Often mentioned as a possible first choice in the NFL draft, he leads a powerful offensive line for the second-ranked Buckeyes.

Darnell Autry, Northwestern, had a season-high 189 yards to become the school’s all-time rushing leader. He has 19 consecutive games with at least 100 yards rushing.
Dameyune Craig, Auburn, threw for 375 yards and four TDs in a 49-15 win over Mississippi State.
Steve Beard, Northern Iowa, threw for five TDs and 347 yards to lead the Panthers to a 47-10 win over Illinois State.
Nebraska outgained Baylor with a season-high 669 yards to the Bears’ 117 in the Cornhuskers’ 49-0 victory.
Jim Turner, Syracuse, returned the second-half kickoff against Pitt 100 yards for a TD in the Orangemen’s 55-7 win. Phil Nash returned a blocked punt for a TD and Kevin Johnson returned a punt 73 yards for another score.
At 4-0, Columbia is off to its best start since 1945.
Florida A&M escaped with a 24-23 victory when North Carolina A&T missed an extra-point with 31 seconds left, the third consecutive victory in that fashion for the Rattlers.
Army QB Adam Thompson (126 yards), and RBs Joe Hewitt (117) and Demetrius Perry (127) helped the Cadets run for 546 yards - its third-best rushing game ever - as the Cadets beat Rutgers 42-21.
Duquesne won its 14th straight game in a 52-14 rout of St. Francis, Pa., the longest winning streak of any team in NCAA Division I-A or Division I-AA. the longest streak in Division I-A belongs to Wyoming, with 10.
