Nam Launches Social Security Drive
A major business lobbying group announced Tuesday the start of a national campaign to make sure the next president and Congress deal with the “financial and political crisis” facing Social Security.
The National Association of Manufacturers said it was critical for policy-makers to shore up the Social Security fund.
“We believe the nation has no choice but to reach a consensus solution on Social Security that honors promises, strengthens the safety net and promotes economic growth,” said new NAM Chairman Warren L. Batts.
He said the next president should appoint a high-level commission to recommend reforms that will “ensure the system can provide promised benefits to those near retirement” while moving toward a mandatory retirement savings program that would allow individuals to make their own investment decisions.
