Janice Friedman Colville, Wash.
Service for Janice Coon (Reed) Friedman, 71, will be at 11 a.m. today at Colville Assembly of God Church. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Friedman, a 41-year Colville, resident, died Tuesday.
She was born in Roanoke, Va.
She attended business college for two years and was working as a civilian for the Air Force when she met her husband, George Friedman.
They were married in 1945 in Middletown, Pa., and moved to Los Angeles. They later lived in Colville for two years before returning to California. In 1955 they moved back to Colville and started Friedman’s Grocery Store. In 1962 they joined other independent grocers to form the Thrift Store organization.
In 1980 they opened Friedman’s Excell supermarket and operated it until 1989, when they retired.
Her husband, George Friedman, died last May.
Mrs. Friedman was a member of Colville Lady Elks, the Elks Choraleers, St. John’s Episcopal Church, the Upper Columbia Human Rights Coalition, PFlag and the Sierra Club and was a Greenpeace supporter.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane Friedman of Colville, and Joyce Woodard and GeorgeAnn Bertholf, both of Spokane; two sons, Reed Friedman of Spokane and Malcolm Friedman of Colville; two brothers, Malcolm Reed of Roanoke, Va., and Robert Reed of Phafftown, N.C.; and five grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Greenpeace.
Phyllis Laine Greenacres
Memorial service for Phyllis B. Laine, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Mrs. Laine, who died Tuesday, was born in Pomeroy, Wash.
She was raised in Winchester and Kooskia, Idaho, and Pomeroy and had lived in Spokane for 51 years.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arvie Laine; a daughter, Anita Griffith of Spokane; two brothers, John Flerchinger of St. Maries and Eddie Flerchinger of Kooskia; her mother, Everta Flerchinger of Kooskia; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Gene Reichert Spokane
Memorial service for Gene A. Reichert, 80, is set for 1 p.m. today at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Reichert, a longtime Spokane resident, died Thursday.
He was born in Sandpoint and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
He worked as a butcher for many years and was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.
His wife, Beryle Reichert, preceded him in death.
Mr. Reichert is survived by a sister, Irene Davis, and a brother, Bob Reichert, both of Spokane.
Jenette Pettibone Colfax, Wash.
Service for Jenette Pettibone, 92, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla.
Mrs. Pettibone, who died Thursday at Whitman Convalescent Center, was born near Culver, Ore.
She graduated from Culver High School and attended Oregon State College and Monmouth Normal School, where she received her teaching degree.
In 1928, she married Bert Pettibone in Culver. They farmed in Oregon until they moved to St. John, Wash., in 1935. In 1937, they moved to a farm in Steptoe, Wash., and they retired to Walla Walla in 1972.
Her husband died in 1981 and Mrs. Pettibone moved to the Whitman Convalescent Center in 1992.
She was a member of the Steptoe Grange.
Survivors include two sons, Lynn Pettibone of Colfax and Alan Pettibone of Olympia; a sister, Ruth Grant of Culver; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Knight Spokane
Graveside service for Dorothy V. Knight, 93, is planned for 3 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Calif. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Knight, who died Thursday, was born in Thessalon, Ontario, and moved with her family to Alberta when she was 5.
She had worked as a secretary in Canada and Alaska before she moved to the United States in 1946.
She worked for a bank in Millwood for several years before she moved to California.
She returned to Spokane in 1970 and worked for several more years before she retired. Mrs. Knight was a member of the Handweavers Guild.
Her husband, Alvin Knight, died in 1970.
She is survived by a son, Gordon Knight of Veradale; a daughter, Faye Schudel of Wellington, Nev.; a sister, Alberta Gillies of Lethbridge, Alberta; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Marilyn ‘Chris’ Scott Spokane
Service for Marilyn “Chris” Scott, 68, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Born in Seattle, Mrs. Scott died Wednesday.
She had lived in Spokane for more than 48 years and had owned a restaurant in Spokane.
Chris is survived at the home by her husband of 50 years, Howard Scott; five daughters, Jeanne Abba of Post Falls, Kathleen Kovis of Pasco, Joan McCoury of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Karla Brown of Greenacres and Patricia Scott of Spokane; two sons, Will Scott of Spokane and Darrell Scott of Clayton, Wash.; a brother, Jon Dudley of Portland; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward Kolman Spokane
Funeral Mass for Edward L. Kolman, 74, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Kolman, who was born in Ryegate, Mont., died last Saturday.
He had lived in Spokane for 10 years, and previously lived in Bozeman and Great Falls, Mont.
He worked for the Spokane and National Associations of Life Underwriters.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Mr. Kolman is survived by his wife of 42 years, Erin Kolman; four daughters, Marianne Obstar of Butte, Mont., Melissa Barrett and Kathleen Kolman, both of Portland, and Jessica Kolman of San Francisco; two sons, John Kolman of Federal Way, Wash., and Andrew Kolman of Spokane; a sister, Helen Chase of Bozeman; and 10 grandchildren.

Cora Ellsworth Hunters, Wash.
Service for Cora Mabel Ellsworth, 80, will be at 3 p.m. today at Cedonia (Wash.) Community Church. Burial will follow at Cedonia Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ellsworth, who died Wednesday, was a lifetime Cedonia resident and graduated from Columbia High School.
She married Guy Ellsworth in 1934, and they farmed near Fruitland, Wash., until 1950, when they moved into Cedonia.
Mrs. Ellsworth worked on the kitchen staff for the Columbia School District from 1965 to 1972. She later worked with her daughter at the Rice (Wash.) Store for several years.
She moved to Hunters in 1975.
She was a member of Cedonia Community Church and Cedonia Ladies Aid.
Her husband died in 1964.
Survivors include by two daughters, Arlene Smith of Deer Park and Naomi Thompson of Rice; a son, Larry Ellsworth of Chewelah, Wash.; three brothers, Ernest and Melvin Dashiell, both of Cedonia, and Frank Dashiell of Hunters, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to the Cedonia Community Church Memorial Fund.
Roy Evanson Chattaroy
Service for Roy E. Evanson, 86, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Ritzville, Wash. Private burial will be at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Evanson, a former Ritzville and Benge, Wash., resident, died Thursday at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane.
Mr. Evanson came to the Ritzville area in 1947 from Port Angeles, Wash., and farmed with his brother-in-law, Stanley Neace at Benge. He later moved to Winona, Wash., where he farmed for Ernie Norris.
He retired in 1972, and he and his wife, Lylian, moved to Ritzville.
In 1992 they moved to Chewelah, Wash., to be closer to their daughter. Both he and his wife moved to a care facility in Chattaroy several months ago.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Benge Volunteer Fire Department and the Ralston Grange. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol Kennedy of Valley, Wash.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Donna Tenneson Spokane
Graveside service for Donna Lavone Tenneson, 63, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tenneson, who died Thursday, was born in Lind, Wash.
She had lived in the Lind and Ritzville, Wash., area until 1984, when she moved to Spokane.
She had worked at the hospital in Ritzville for 20 years as a cook.
Mrs. Tenneson was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Brown of Spokane and Teresa Hamid of Ritzville; a son, Larry Tenneson of Spokane; a sister, Artis Brannon of Pullman; three brothers, Donald and Dewayne Klemmer, both of Lind, and Dennis Klemmer of Moses Lake; her companion, Everett Nilles; and two grandchildren.
Caroline Johnston Luther Chattaroy
Service for Caroline Mae Johnston Luther, 101, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sunset Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Luther, who was born in Little Falls, Minn., died Wednesday.
She attended St. Cloud (Minn.) State Teachers College and taught grade school.
She moved to Hillyard in 1923 and received her Washington state teaching credentials from Cheney Normal School. She taught in Tum Tum, Wash., and the surrounding area.
Mrs. Luther previously had lived at the Plaza Retirement Home in Spokane and in 1992 moved to Chattaroy.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474, the Lady Trainmen and the Spokane Garden Club.
She married Horace Johnston in 1923. He died in 1962. She later married Frank Luther. He died in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Justine Haile of Chattaroy; two stepdaughters, Fern Michaelson of Mead and Frances Matheson of Redmond, Wash.; two granddaughters, three stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pearl Ward Spokane
Service for Pearl Elizabeth, Ward, 88, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Bend, Wash., Mrs. Ward died Wednesday.
She was a 70-year Spokane resident and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She is survived by a son, Ainslee Foote of Odessa, Wash.; a sister, Ida Culbertson of Spokane; a brother, Raymond Tedrow of Addy, Wash.; and two grandsons.
Mary Lodico Spokane
Service for Mary M. Lodico, 89, will be at 10 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.
Mrs. Lodico, an 81-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.
She was born in North Dakota and was raised on a farm in the Tekoa, Wash., area.
She worked as a lab technician for 25 years and also at the Ridpath Hotel.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Bates of Spokane; two sons, Gene Lodico of Greenacres and Richard Lodico of Spokane; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
