Police Raid Motel, Arrest Four On Forgery Charges

From Staff Reports

Four people were arrested on 29 counts of forgery Friday afternoon when police raided a Spokane motel room and found three bags of allegedly stolen checks.

Gilbert A. Serrano, 31, Angela Soto, 44, and two teen-aged boys were all arrested. Serrano, a transient, and Soto of Yakima were booked into the Spokane County Jail. The teens were taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Police were investigating an anonymous tip of drug activity in a room at the West Wynn Motel, 2701 W. Sunset Blvd., when they found the checks.

Twenty-nine of the checks were filled out with fictitious names, said police spokesman Dick Cottam. Most of the checks showed amounts between $325 and $350. Police said they found another check partially filled out and in a typewriter.

The checks were stolen from a Spokane construction company and a Coeur d’Alene contractor, Cottam said.
