Flooding Kills 113; Thousands Homeless

Compiled From Wire Services

Heavy rains and flooding have killed 113 people and left thousands homeless in southern India, a news agency reported Sunday.

Worst hit was coastal Prakasam district, where rescuers found 70 bodies on Sunday, four days after the heavy rains began, Press Trust of India news service said.

Most of the dead drowned when an embankment on a reservoir collapsed. Other deaths occurred when people were buried under the debris of homes or drowned while trying to swim to safety.
