First Came Love, Then Came Money

Compiled From Wire Services

The young couple was engaged to be married in December - until they won the lottery.

Gabriela Correa and Jose Martinez bought a ticket Oct. 16, won $75,000 on the 17th and by the 18th were fighting over who owned it.

Correa, 25, has the ticket, but Martinez, 28, told a judge it was his.

“I bought the ticket and she put it in her pocket. I said nothing because she was my fiancee,” Martinez told Judge Pedro Benitez. “Now she says the ticket is hers.”

The judge ordered the lottery agency to withhold the funds pending his ruling.

The engagement has been called off.
