Fall Back: Standard Time Returns Sunday

Associated Press

Most of America’s clocks return to standard time Sunday.

The ritual occurs officially at 2 a.m., when clocks should be set back one hour. Most folks will set clocks back before going to bed Saturday night.

The change provides an extra hour for sleep, returning that hour lost last spring when clocks leapt forward. The shift also moves an hour of light from evening to morning.

Exempt from the change are residents of Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa. Those areas don’t observe daylight time, so they’re already on standard reckoning.

Daylight saving time will be back next April 6.
