This Halloween, Try Treating The Needy

Jennifer Hayes, Gonzaga Prep

As Halloween time rolls around each year, teens often wonder what they can do to celebrate and have fun. Terrorizing little trick-or-treaters can get old fast. Yet why shouldn’t teens do something a little more constructive and fun on this holiday?

Many Gonzaga Prep students opt to go door to door collecting food for the poor rather than asking for candy. They do this in preparation for Prep’s annual food drive, which raised over 90 tons of food last year.

There is no reason why teens from other schools couldn’t collect food for their local food bank, too. It still offers the chance to dress up, and you and your friends could make an exciting evening out of helping those who truly are hungry.

So make sure you have good walking shoes, don’t forget the flashlight, borrow a wagon, and go out to help make a difference.
