Victim’s Remains To Stay In Morgue
The remains of a murdered man will stay in a Bonner County morgue despite attempts by relatives to retrieve his body.
A judge ruled Tuesday that Jeremy Scott’s remains may be needed as evidence in the murder case.
Scott, 24, was killed more than a year ago. He was shot once in the back of the head and buried in a shallow grave. His body was recovered about two months ago after convicted felon Faron Lovelace was arrested and confessed to the murder.
Scott’s body has remained in a freezer in a morgue while Lovelace’s case makes its way through court. Scott’s father, Homer Scott, tried to get authorities to release his son’s body so he could cremate him and take the ashes back to Florida.
Prosecutor Tevis Hull ordered the man’s body released, but Lovelace’s attorney, Phil Robinson, objected. Robinson said more tests and evidence may need to be gathered from Scott’s remains. A judge agreed and ordered the body remain here for now.
During the court hearing, a disturbed Lovelace stopped the proceeding. He told his attorney he did not want to delay the release of Scott’s body.
“Mr. Lovelace wanted me to reiterate that it is not our desire to create any trauma for the Scott family,” Robinson explained to the court.
Lovelace recently underwent a mental evaluation. A hearing to determine if he is competent to stand trial is slated for Nov. 12.
