Ronald Bruce Spokane
Memorial service for Ronald Albertus Bruce, 87, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bruce, who died Thursday, was born in Aneta, N.D.
He moved to Spokane 55 years ago and operated Bruce’s Grocery and later Greenacres Market, until he retired in 1972.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Fern Bruce; two daughters, Helen Ruthrauff of Rimrock, Ariz., and Donna Hoerner of Spokane; a son, Ronald Bruce of Spokane; three sisters, Jean Wolverton of Great Falls, Mont., Nina Lowder of Spokane and Sharon Guggenberger of Minneapolis; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Gladyce Thompson Palouse, Wash.
Service for Gladyce M. Thompson, 75, will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Palouse Federated Church in Palouse. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thompson, who was born in Palouse, died Friday at Palouse Hills Nursing Center in Pullman, Wash.
She graduated from Palouse High School and worked at Williamson’s Department Store in Palouse.
In 1941, she married Leo Thompson in Moscow, Idaho. The couple settled in Palouse.
Mrs. Thompson went to work for the Palouse Library in 1956. In 1960, she went to work for the Whitman County Library in Colfax, Wash., where she was a librarian for 20 years. She retired in 1981 and continued to work part-time at the Palouse Library.
She was a member of the Palouse Federated Church, Palouse Senior Citizens Club and the Palouse Xenodian Club.
Her husband died in 1981.
She is survived by a son, Marv Thompson of Spokane; a daughter, Gerrie Hankin of Chandler, Ariz.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Palouse Emergency Medical Technicians or the Palouse Senior Citizens Club.
Guy Barker Spokane
A memorial potluck for Guy W. Barker, 52, will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 1830 E. 38th.
Mr. Barker, a longtime Spokane resident, died Wednesday from cancer.
He was born Portland.
He worked for PTI Communications, and was stationed at Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College for many years. He designed, installed, programmed and maintained the telephone and telecommunications systems for the colleges.
His mother, Crystal Baker, died four hours before he did.
He is survived by a daughter, Leslie Baker of Olympia; and two brothers, Dan and Charles.
Mike Oscarson Priest River, Idaho
Service for Lee Michael “Mike” Oscarson, 36, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
Mr. Oscarson, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.
He was a self-employed electronic technician and co-owned Lee Forest Products with his father, Lee Roy Oscarson.
He was also a ham radio operator.
Mr. Oscarson is survived by his father; two daughters, Amy and Emily Oscarson, both of Priest River; his girlfriend, Tina Over of Priest River; two sisters, Lynda Cotton of Salem, Ore., and Lori Wallace of Seattle, and his grandmother, Katherine Nelson of Priest River.
Eva Millhorn Spokane
Visitation for Eva R. Millhorn, 92, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pines Cemetery.
Born in Ritzville, Wash., Mrs. Millhorn died Thursday at home.
She moved to Spokane 52 years ago from Kellogg, Idaho, where she had lived for 20 years.
She had been the manager and an instructor at the Morse-Cady’s Beauty School for more than 15 years. She was also a professional seamstress.
She was a 50-year member of Victory Chapter 161 Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Arthur Millhorn, preceded her in death.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Lynda Curtis of Spokane and two great-granddaughters.
Ethel Menkel Ritzville, Wash.
Visitation for Ethel Menkel, 99, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Spokane.
Mrs. Menkel, who died Thursday at the Life Care Center in Ritzville, was born in Edwall, Wash.
Her first husband, John McDonald, died in 1920 while she was pregnant with their daughter. In 1922, she married George Menkel. They farmed in Edwall until they retired to Spokane in 1945. Mr. Menkel died in 1972.
Mrs. Menkel remained in Spokane until 1989, when she moved to Ritzville. She was two weeks shy of her 100th birthday.
She was a 50-year Golden Sheaf member of the Neighborhood Grange at Mica, a 50-year member of The Three Link Rebekah Lodge of Reardan and was a holder of a Washington Centurion Farm Certificate.
Two husbands preceded her in death; John McDonald in 1920 and George Menkel in 1976.
Surviving are two granddaughters, Diane Eastman of Ritzville and Gail Heide of Sprague, Wash.; two stepgrandsons, Mike Man of Seattle and Chris Mann of Wasilla, Alaska, and eight great-grandchildren.
