Program Of Free Vasectomies For Low-Income Men To Stop
A state-funded program for free vasectomies ends this month.
Planned Parenthood of Central Washington is administering the program here. Funding remains available for 40 men in Yakima, Kittitas, Franklin and Walla Walla counties, but the surgeries must be performed by the last day of September.
Vasectomy surgeries average $300 to $400 each. Planned Parenthood received about $15,000 from the state Department of Health for the free vasectomy program.
For eligibility, men must be older than 18, not covered by private medical insurance or Medicaid and earn less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level. For example, a single man could have a monthly income of $1,245 and still be eligible, while someone with a family of four could earn $2,525 a month and also be eligible.
Information and applications are available at Planned Parenthood clinics.
