College Zaps Nuclear Program
Columbia Basin College is canceling a program designed to prepare students for jobs in the nuclear industry, saying too few graduates are being hired at the Washington’s Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
Enrollment in the two-year program has dwindled because students no longer can get the jobs they want at Hanford, college board members said in dropping the degree program Tuesday.
Several thousand Hanford workers have been laid off in recent years because of federal budget reductions.
