Man Kills Children Over Custody

Compiled From Wire Services

Police searched the resort island of Mallorca on Friday for a German doctor suspected of killing his young daughter and son with lethal injections.

Dr. Ruedeger Oyntzen, 40, said in a note that he killed the children - Katharina, 8, and Matthias, 6 - and planned to commit suicide because his ex-wife had recently been awarded custody, police and state radio reports said.

But Oyntzen’s passport and money were not in his hotel room and police suspected the Breisach, Germany, resident might try to flee, perhaps to get to his former spouse in Britain, state radio said.

A maid at the Royal Mediterraneo resort found the children’s bodies in their beds Friday morning.
