Man Tells Police He Was Beaten In Riverfront Park

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 27-year-old man was beaten early Saturday by four men near the carousel in Riverfront Park and later found his apartment had been vandalized.

The victim told police the men showed up in the park just after midnight, while he was waiting for a friend. The men demanded money they claimed the victim owed one of them, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

One of the men then held a revolver to the victim’s head while the other three jumped him, police said. The victim’s arm was cut with a knife during the scuffle.

Following the attack, the victim returned to his apartment. He called police after discovering two walls and a door had been spray-painted inside. Nothing appeared to be missing, Cottam said.

The victim, who refused treatment for the injuries he suffered during the fight, described his attackers as four black men in their early 20s and wearing dark Raiders athletic clothing, Cottam said.

Police described the victim’s injuries as minor.
