Obituaries

Ernest Crossley Spokane

Funeral for Ernest V. Crossley, 70, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church.

Interment with military honors will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Neighborhood First United Pentecostal Church in Gresham, Ore. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Crossley, who was born in Conda, Idaho, died Thursday.

He served in the Army during World War II in Europe and worked for 30 years as a carpenter.

Mr. Crossley was a co-pastor for 28-1/2 years of First United Pentecostal Church, district superintendent of the Washington state United Pentecostal Church, district presbyter of the Northwest and Washington UPC, and a director and board member of Conquerors Bible College in Portland.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, the Rev. Tiny Crossley; two sons, the Rev. Darry Crossley of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Capt. Daniel James Crossley of Randolph Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Nolia Rugust of Spokane and Nila Jorden of Elk; a son by legal guardianship, Robert Daniel Anderson of Upland, Calif.; one foster daughter, Linda Baty of Spokane; and 10 grandchildren.

George Adams Fairfield

Memorial service for George W. Adams, 95, will be at 1 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. Inurnment will be private. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Fairfield, Mr. Adams died Friday.

He was a 90-year resident of Spokane. He graduated from Fairfield High School and then he owned and operated farms in the area.

He belonged to the Triangle Grange, Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star, all in Fairfield. Mr. Adams is survived by his daughter, Anne Adell Carlson of Wilbur, Wash.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Alice Jenson Spokane

Visitation for Alice L. Jenson, 85, will be at 10 a.m. today at Shawnee 7th Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jenson, who was born in Bymun, Mont., died Saturday.

She was a graduate of Chouteau (Mont.) High School. She managed a restaurant inside a former Albertsons grocery story on the North Side before becoming manager of the Panda Restaurant, where she worked for 20 years.

She was a 54-year Spokane resident and a member of Shawnee 7th Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Mrs. Jenson was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Albert “Oley” Jenson.

Survivors include a daughter, Lauralee Mapes of Spokane; a son, Howard Jenson of Newman Lake; two sisters, Ellen Davis of Chouteau and Kathryn Stebbins of Kalispell, Mont.; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Paul Kimberling Moscow, Idaho

Graveside service for Paul M. Kimberling, 85, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Moscow Cemetery. Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kimberling, who was born in Virginia, died Friday.

He attended school in Juliaetta, Idaho, and later farmed in the Moscow area. He helped operate Ward Paint and Hardware before working for the University of Idaho dairy barns.

He retired in 1976.

Mr. Kimberling lived in Rathdrum, Idaho, for several years before returning to Moscow in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Karl Kimberling of Colfax, Wash., and Mose Kimberling of Moscow; a daughter, Paula Moore of Arkansas; an adopted daughter, Shari Anderson of Spokane; a brother, Boss Lester Kimberling of Onaway, Idaho; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

William Sheldon Spokane

Memorial service for William E. “Bill” Sheldon, 85, will be today at 2 p.m. at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Sheldon, a 55-year resident of Spokane, died Thursday.

He was born in Careywood, Idaho, and graduated from Rathdrum High School.

He was a carpenter during construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. During World War II, he was a warehouse foreman at the Spokane Air Depot.

Mr. Sheldon retired as vice president in charge of appliances at AMFAC, formerly Columbia Electric, in 1973.

Mr. Sheldon was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary A. Sheldon; two sons, David Sheldon of Federal Way, Wash., and Leigh Sheldon of Marysville, Wash.; three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter.

Martin Frostad Kettle Falls, Wash.

Funeral for Martin A. Frostad, 80, was Monday at Kettle Falls Community Church. Graveside service followed at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, Wash. Danekas Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Frostad, who was born in Marcus, Wash., died Friday.

He worked as a conductor for 42 years for the Great Northern Railroad.

He was member of the Kettle Falls Community Church.

Mr. Frostad is survived by his wife, Ella; three sons, Eddie Frostad of Kettle Falls, Alvid Frostad of Pullman and Martin Frostad of Lewiston; one daughter, Marlene Lundin of Kent, Wash., one sister, Ruby Fosback of Kettle Falls; seven brothers, Ed Frostad of Marcus, Wash., Norman Frostad of Chewelah, Wash., Walt Frostad of Coeur d’ Alene, Lawrence Frostad of Seattle, Ronald Frostad of Kettle Falls, Melvin Frostad of Vancouver, Wash., and John Frostad of Spokane; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Yvonne Brown Spokane

Graveside service for Yvonne Brown, 72, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Brown, who was born in Oregon City, Ore., died Saturday.

She graduated from Spokane Community College School of Nursing.

Mrs. Brown then worked as an licensed practical nurse at Deaconess Medical Center. She later worked at several nursing homes.

She retired in 1986. Mrs. Brown was a member of the New Friends.

Her survivors include two daughters, Sandy Ham and Danna Randall, and one son, Steve Osterlund, all of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Vera Barker Spokane

Service for Vera A. Barker, 96, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Interment will be at Pleasant Prairie Cemetery.

Mrs. Barker, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

She graduated from North Central High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church and the Central Grange.

Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her husband, John.

Survivors include one stepson, Donald Barker of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Gladys Hershey of Texas, and Ann Collins and Pat Sayler, both of Spokane; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Loma Ranney Spokane

Funeral service for Loma J. Ranney, 70, will be at 1 p.m. today at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel, Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ranney, who lived in Spokane for 30 years, died Saturday.

She worked for Columbia Lighting for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1977.

Mrs. Ranney is survived by three sons, John Evans, Byron Evans and Joe Ranney, all of Spokane; one daughter, Deborah Hardgrove of Seattle; two sisters, Norene McEvoy of Spokane and Cleo Benjamin of Seattle; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Zoe Schedin Spokane

Funeral service for Zoe E. Schedin, 92, will be at 1 p.m. today at Westside Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in the family plot in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Bow Valley, Neb. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schedin, who was born in Hartington, Neb., died Friday. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Shadle Park Church of the Nazarene. She was also a self-employed seamstress.

She is preceded in death by two husbands: Lloyd Brewer in 1946 and Alfred Schedin in 1963.

Survivors include one daughter, Lola Baldasty of Spokane; two stepsons, Norman Schedin and Duane Schedin, both of Seattle; two sisters, Mary Davies and Chloe Fox, both of Sacramento, Calif.; and one brother, Lewis Denny of Nine Mile Falls.

John Desjarlais Jr. Coeur d’Alene

Service for John W. Desjarlais Jr., 65, will be today at 10 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Desjarlais, who was born in Montana, died Friday.

He served with the Navy and later owned a farm near Great Falls, Mont.

Mr. Desjarlais settled in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas and built and remodeled homes.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Doryce; three sons, Grinelle Desjarlais of Spokane, and Anthony Desjarlais and Patrick Desjarlais, both of Post Falls; four daughters, Gwen Hill of South Dakota, Leona Flowers of Oregon, Jessie Desjarlais of Pocatello, Idaho, and Dee Dee Whitt of Spirit Lake, Idaho; a brother, Gene Desjarlais of Montana; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Richard Goodman Salem, Ore.

Memorial service for Richard P. Goodman, 65, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Chapel of Gardens in Salem, Ore.

Mr. Goodman, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday. Mr. Goodman served in the Army in Korea. He them became a manufacturer’s representative. He is survived by his wife, Lea; five daughters, Nancy Rost and Dawn Bishop, both of Salem, Ore., Kathryn Ingham of Torrance, Calif., Barbara Quinn of Las Vegas, Nev., and Debra Allison of Pittsburg, Calif.; a son, Michael Goodman of Newark, Calif.; a brother, William Goodman of Augusta, Ga.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Horwege Davenport, Wash.

Service for Elizabeth Horwege, 98, will be at 1 p.m. today at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport. Born in Spokane, Mrs. Horwege died Friday.

She was a member of Davenport United Methodist Church and the Lincoln County Historical Society and a 50-year member of the Community Grange.

Her husband, Jason Horwege, died in 1985.

She is survived by a son, Duane Horwege of Davenport; a brother, Bill Tanner of Spokane; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alycia Stevens Spokane

Memorial service for Alycia L. Stevens, 17, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Hills Baptist Church. Miss Stevens, who was born in Rome, N.Y., was killed in an automobile accident Aug. 18.

She was a senior at Shadle Park High School, where she was a member of the bowling team. She also was a member of the Young American Bowling Association program and competed on the Junior Bowler Team.

She is survived by her parents Teral and Debbie Stevens of Spokane; and two sisters, Teri and Heather Lee, and a brother, Lewis Stevens, all of Spokane.

Ina Madison Spokane

Memorial mass for Ina J. Madison, 70, will be at 1 p.m. today at Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Madison, who was born in Middletown, Ohio, died last Tuesday.

Mrs. Madison was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cathedral.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wally.

Survivors include four sisters, Rose Fritsch, Cecelia Kramer, Luteresa Burman and Betty Snell; and a brother, Thomas Lay.

Vaughna Young Spokane

Graveside service for Vaughna M. Young, 86, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Young worked as a seamstress at Inland Casket Co. for six years and was a drapery worker.

She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Everett. Her husband, Raymond, died in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Somerville of Spokane; a sister, Zelphia Irving of Seattle; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marvel Mitchell Spokane

A family gathering in memory of Marvel J. Mitchell, 66, will be at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mitchell, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died Thursday.

She graduated from Moscow High School and was a member of Beta Signa Phi sorority at the University of Idaho.

Mrs. Mitchell owned and operated Marvel’s Hypnoclinic until her retirement in 1982.

She is survived by her husband of seven years, Robert, two daughters, Connie McCoy of Redmond, Wash., and Janice Wilcox of Spokane; two sons, Jay McGuire of Spokane and Von McGuire of Korea; two sisters, one brother, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
