Alex Wood (D)

State Rep. Dist. 3, Pos. 1

Resume: 50, Spokane-area resident since 1977 … Washington State University, broadcast journalism (two credits shy of graduation) … Submarine Quartermaster in the U.S. Navy, 1966-1970 … KXLY radio reporter, anchor and most recently host of “Talk Back,” 1977 to 1996. Twice honored with Columbia School of Journalism Armstrong Award … single.

Finances: Has raised about $7,000, about $1,000 of his own money.

Why running: “I always wanted to. I’m a political junkie. I’m a facilitator. I’m a compromiser. I love to listen to the other person’s point of view. I’m one who hopefully can work together and get things to the middle, and get things done one step at a time.”

What will do first: That depends on the makeup of the House when he arrives, but his plan is to apply himself to the issues where he can be most effective first.
