Boise State said wide receiver Greg Thomas has been declared ineligible and has been dropped from the football team.
The school said it discovered that Thomas first enrolled in college in 1990. NCAA rules require a student-athlete to complete four years of athletic eligibility within five years of the first time he or she enrolls in college. The school said that meant after the 1994 football season, Thomas was ineligible.
San Diego State indefinitely suspended senior running back George Jones over possible NCAA rules violations. School officials refused to discuss the case, saying it was still under investigation. Jones, third in the nation in rushing last season with a 153.5-yard average, also was suspended for the team’s opener against Idaho.
