Dance Group Seeks Ballet Students For Met Shows

Dance Theatre Northwest will hold auditions today at The Academy of Dance, 14214 E. Sprague.

Auditions, which run from 1:30 to 3 p.m., are open to advanced dancers who take a minimum of three ballet technique classes per week.

Planned performances for the 1996-97 season include “The Toy Shelf” and “Tales of Beatrix Potter,” both at The Met theater downtown.

Other performance opportunities will include an Uptown Opera production, and lecture demonstrations and performances at area schools.

Positions available

Spokane County Commissioners are accepting applications for seven openings on three committees.

The Community Services Substance Abuse Board has four vacancies, while the Board of Equalization has two and the Solid Waste Advisory Committee has one. Positions on the substance abuse and equalization boards are for three years each. The solid waste opening is a four-year term.

The deadline to apply for all of the positions is Sept. 30.

Applications are available at the commissioners’ office, 1116 W. Broadway.

Valley Newcomer’s Club to meet

The monthly Spokane Valley Newcomer’s Club luncheon and meeting will be held Thursday at Marie Callendar’s Restaurant, 211 N. Argonne Road.

Social hour starts at 11:30 a.m. Lunch begins at noon.

Anyone interested in attending should call Cheryl Andresen at 924-5672 by Monday.

Sue McDaniel will host the monthly coffee on Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Anyone interested should call Andresen.
