New faces:
Merrill Lynch has hired the following two people as financial consultants in its Spokane office:
Ralph Parkinson, who received an MBA from Eastern Washington University, was with the local office of Smith Barney for nearly five years before joining Merrill Lynch.
Margot Hamstra-Havermann was formerly with the law firm of Olson, Loeffler & Landis P.S. She is a graduate of the University of Denver College of Law.
The Spokane Intercollegiate Research & Technology Institute (SIRTI) has added two professionals to its management team:
Terry Chambers has joined SIRTI as coordinator of the Institute’s Technology Enterprise Development Initiative, a group of commercialization services for small and medium-sized businesses. Chambers was formerly a business development specialist with the Small Business Development Center in Spokane and is a founding member of TechNet, a local professional network of technology-based businesses.
Anthony Lentz joined SIRTI to direct university-based commercialization projects, such as transferring technologies developed on campuses into regional businesses, and assembling collegiate research teams and resources to help solve industry technology-related problems. Lentz was formerly with the State University of New York at Stony Brook and spent 12 years in applied research, biomedical engineering and health care product development at Dow Corning Wright.
Three project specialists also have joined SIRTI: Bonnie Glazier, Jim Roberts, and Lorne Bilesky. Lisa Moss is SIRTI’s new grants and contracts assistant.
Kiemle & Hagood Co. has hired Bryson Hatch as controller. Hatch was previously with Inland Asphalt Co. as business manager.
Michelle Sutherland joined Kiemle & Hagood as an administrative assistant in the housing rehabilitation department. Sutherland previously worked at Cherry Creek Mortgage.
Northwest Bedding Co. recently appointed Hal Patton as general manager. Patton was formerly with Serta Mattress Co. for 10 years, most recently as president of Serta Denver. He will oversee all sales and marketing activities for Northwest Bedding, as well as production and factory direct operations.
Joyce McCown has been appointed commissioner of Division III Washington State Court of Appeals. McCown served as clerk of the court/staff attorney since 1987. She began her career at the appeals court in 1980 as an attorney in central staff.
Patricia Crandall was named clerk of the Washington State Court of Appeals Division III and also will serve as staff attorney for the court. Crandall practiced law with the Spokane firm of Lukins & Annis P.S. for more than 13 years before leaving six years ago to clerk for Judge Philip Thompson.
Moving up:
KeyBank has promoted the following staff at its Plummer, Idaho, KeyCenter:
Stephane Allen, a KeyBank employee at the Plummer (Idaho) KeyCenter since 1989, was promoted to customer service manager. Allen began her banking career as a customer service representative and was promoted to operations supervisor in 1994. She worked in the grocery business from 1978 until 1989.
Kim Small, a KeyBank employee at the Plummer KeyCenter since 1994, was promoted to sales associate. A graduate of Washington State University, she previously was a financial service representative.
Starting up:
Sam Cozza has started his own practice, Cozza Optical, at 5522 N. Wall. Cozza, a licensed optician, has more than 20 years of experience in the optical business. He previously worked for Group Health Northwest, where he was director of optical for eight years.

Monaco Enterprises Inc. received a Silver Telly Award for its Home Theatre video production by North Country Media Group of Great Falls, Mont. Telly Awards are presented for outstanding broadcast, non-broadcast, cable, film and video production.
Bob Ogden of North Coast Life was recognized by the members of the Washington Insurance Council for his many years of service as counsel.
Barry Folsom, an agent with New York Life Insurance Co., has earned membership in the Million Dollar Round Table for the first time. To qualify, members must meet annual production requirements of $50,000 in first-year commissions, be members of their local life underwriters association and have sold a minimum of 25 lives/cases in 1995.
