Gene Rockey Cheney

Memorial Mass for Gene E. Rockey, 74, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home of Cheney is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Rockey, born in Cleveland, died Thursday.

He served in the Air Force as a pilot during World War II and the Vietnam War. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.

Mr. Rockey later attended Spokane Falls Community College and became a professional photographer. He owned and operated Rockey’s Photography in Cheney for 10 years.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cheney, the Knights of Columbus, the Retired Officers Association and the Cheney Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Leona; four daughters, Candice Rivard of Four Lakes, Denise Karin of Bonney Lake, Wash., Mari Martinen of Bremerton and Dare Rockey-Feris of Bedford, Texas; four sons, Jeffrey Rockey of Medical Lake, Gene and Mark Rockey, both of Spokane, and Brian Rockey of Cottage Grove, Ore.; two brothers, Clarence Rockey of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Robert Rockey of Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, c/o St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, or to the American Diabetes Association.

Colin ‘Charlie’ Farrish Moscow, Idaho

Service for Colin ‘Charlie’ W. Farrish, 87, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at the Pullman City Cemetery. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Lewiston, Mr. Farrish died Friday.

He owned a dairy farm in Lostine, Ore. He later worked as an experiments aide in the horticulture department at Washington State University.

He retired after 22 years. His wife, Hazel, died in April.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Farrish of Gilbert, Ariz., and Jim Farrish of Morton, Wash.; a daughter, Sandra Jenkins of Pocatello, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Amelia Ensz Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Amelia Ensz, 86, will be at 2 p.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Interment will be at Chewelah Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ensz, who was born in Warden, Wash., died Friday.

Survivors include two brothers, Henry and Otto Ensz, and three sisters, Bertha and Lena Ensz and Caroline Wooters, all of Chewelah.

August Welk Spokane

Mass for August G. Welk, 85, was Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Born in North Dakota, he died Friday.

Mr. Welk owned a steel fabrication company.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Manito Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; a son, Richard Welk of Spokane; a daughter, Lucille Barrows of Redondo, Wash.; three brothers, Peter Welk of Spokane, Fred Welk of Bellevue, Wash., and Martin Welk of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Adelia Nolan of Cranbrook, British Columbia; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Morning Star Boys Ranch.

Alfred Anselmo Spokane

Mass for Alfred C. Anselmo was Monday. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Anselmo, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Friday.

He graduated from North Central High School and then began a printing apprenticeship in 1925. He worked for The Spokesman-Review from 1942 until his retirement in 1976.

He was a member of the International Typographical Union, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Lodge 2, Eagles 25 Club, Eagles Recreational Vehicle Travel Club, Italian-American Club, and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marjorie; a son, Paul Anselmo of Green Bay, Wis.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mater Dei Institute for Ministry Formation or the Poor Clair Nuns.

Mary ‘Bette’ Woods Spokane

No service will be held for Mary E. ‘Bette’ Woods, 75, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Woods, who was born in Seattle, died Friday.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Spokane Country Club.

She is survived by her two sons, Don and Budd Woods, both of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society.

William Rashkov Spokane

Service for William Rashkov, 82, was Monday at Mount Nebo Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Rashkov, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

He was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and owned and operated Rashkov Investments.

Mr. Rashkov was a member of Temple Beth Shalom, B’nai B’rith, the Anti-Defamation League, Spokane Symphony and the Eastern Washington Historical Society.

He is survived by two sisters, Betty Rashkov of Spokane and Hannah Horowitz of Bridgeton, N.J.

Mary Luft Endicott, Wash.

Service for Mary J. Luft, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott, Wash. Burial will follow at the Endicott Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax, Wash. is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Salem, Ore., she died Sunday.

She was a member of Endicott Congregational Church, Endicott Multa Flora Garden Club and several card clubs.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Karl; a son, Roger Luft of Benton City, Wash.; a daughter, Karlyn Wilson of Walla Walla; a sister, Eileen Hall of Astoria, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.

William ‘Bill’ Walker Spokane

Service for William ‘Bill’ H. Walker, 68, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. A reception will follow from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge.

Mr. Walker, who was born in Poplar, Mont., died Friday.

He served in Navy during the Korean War and later worked for American Sign and Indicator, where he retired after 24 years.

He was a member of the Senior Volunteers with the Spokane Police Department, and Eagles Lodge 2 and the Transportation Club.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Marion; four daughters, Jeanine Walker, Jill Walker, Janet Hooper and Terry Duffy, all of Spokane; a sister, Janet Piger; and three granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Merry Glen Home and School for the Handicapped.

Elva Grace Iunker Coeur d’Alene

At her request, no service will be held for Elva Grace Iunker, 88. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Iunker, a former Kellogg resident, died Saturday.

She was born and raised in Wardner, Idaho, and attended Kinman Business College in Spokane.

She was a bookkeeper for the family jewelry business before moving to Spokane in 1963 and working at The Crescent department store. She moved to Cataldo, Idaho, in 1971, to Kellogg in 1980, and recently to Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Iunker was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Kellogg Rebekahs.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond Coats and Bill Iunker. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Chevalier of Cataldo; one sister in Alaska, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Roy Garrelts Spokane

Visitation for Roy A. Garrelts, 84, will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Service will be at 1 p.m. today at the Pullman City Cemetery.

Born in Garfield, Wash., Mr. Garrelts died Friday.

He served in the Army during World War II and worked construction. He later worked in farming.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances; two sisters, Goldie Henley of Walla Walla and Alice Hunt of Yakima; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Thelma Martin Post Falls

At the request of the family, no service will be held for Thelma J. Martin, 58. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Martin, who was born in Colville, Wash., died Sept. 3. She moved to the Coeur d’Alene area from Elk in July.

She was a member of the Open Bible Church in Newport, Wash.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry of Texas; a son, Harold “Butch” Yelle Jr. of Montana; two daughters, Cindy Frost of Texas and April Anderson of Oregon; four brothers, Lloyd Clapper of Hauser Lake, Idaho, Charley Clapper of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., Bill Middleton of California and Wayne Clapper; and three sisters, Hazel Carr of Hauser Lake, June Zemm of Spokane and Mary Haden of Nine Mile Falls.
