The Utah Jazz have requested waivers on Kenny Gattison, a forward acquired from Orlando as part of the trade that sent center Felton Spencer to the Magic.

Team spokesman Mark Kelly said he understood Gattison planned to take an assistant coaching job in the NBA.

Gattison, 32, came to Utah on Aug. 9 along with guard Brooks Thompson and a future first-round draft choice. The 7-foot Spencer went to Orlando to shore up the center position vacated when Shaquille O’Neal signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
