Record Falls Again
Stand Forever set a world record for a half-mile track in winning the $40,000 Magical Mike Invitational Pace at the Delaware County Fairgrounds.
The 4-year-old son of Dragon’s Lair, driven by Jeff Webster, covered the mile in 1:49-2/3.
Stand Forever’s all-age record for a half-mile trakc beat the mark of 1:49-3/5 set by Jenna’s Beach Boy last Sunday.
Hi Ho Silverheel finished second in the race and Village Connection was third. Driver Jack Moiseyev thought that he might win the Little Brown Jug, but certainly not with Armbro Operative.
Most insiders believed that even though there was no clear-cut favorite in the second jewel of pacing’s triple crown, Oye Vay was still the class of the 27-horse field.
But after Oye Vay placed fourth in his elimination, Moiseyev didn’t have a horse in the final. Mike Lachance, who drove Armbro Operative to victory in the first elimanation and Firm Belief to a win in the second, was forced to choose. He took Firm Belief in the final.
That gave Armbro Operative to Moiseyev, who made the most of his opportunity to win the final in 1:52-3-5.
