The Ticker A Look Back At The Past Week On Wall Street

What’s hot

Something’s cooking at Interstate Bakeries, which announced earlier this week that sales and earnings exceed forecasts for the previous quarter. The Kansas City, Mo.-based baker’s stock rose almost $4 Thursday and another 12-1/2 cents Friday, closing the week at $36.87-1/2 … The yellow trucks that have been causing Ryder System such bad press the past few years will soon be someone else’s problem. The Miami-based company announced Thursday it would sell the consumer rental truck division to Southfield, Mich.-based Qyestor Management. Wall Street went along for the ride, bumping Ryder’s stock up $1.37-1/2 the last two days of the week. It closed at $31 … Online services haven’t been the hottest commodities recently, but the largest, America Online, received a boost this week when Merrill Lynch raised its earning estimates. America Online ended the week at $34.12-1/2, up $1 on Friday.

What’s not

Why did the chicken cross the road? In the case of Pudgie’s Chicken, it was to get to bankruptcy court. The Uniondale, N.Y.-based company filed for Chapter 11 to protect itself from a $1.7 million arbitration award. The news greased the company’s stock and it fell $1.53-1/8 the last two days to close at 87-1/2 cents Friday.
