Thomas: U.S. Becoming ‘Evil Empire’ Columnist Says Abortion Pill, Kevorkian Are Proof Of ‘An Evil Age’
Jack Kevorkian and the RU-486 abortion pill are two reasons why America is “rapidly becoming an evil empire,” one of the nation’s most influential Christian conservatives said Friday.
“Folks, we live in an evil age,” syndicated columnist Cal Thomas said.
Thomas likened Kevorkian’s “death machine” and U.S. Food and Drug Administration pending approval of the abortion pill to Nazi genocide.
The pill will enable women to have abortions much earlier in their pregnancies.
“We want to speed up the death process,” he said.
Thomas, interrupted a few times by hearty applause, addressed a thousand of his fans at the Spokane Ag Trade Center. He was the keynote speaker for Crisis Pregnancy Centers of Spokane’s annual banquet.
The centers are Christian ministries that support young women in bringing unplanned pregnancies to term.
Calling abortion “the premier moral issue of our time,” Thomas applauded the CPC’s efforts to steer women from abortion through spirituality.
“All humanity is important, not because I said so or because the state said so, but because God made us in His own image,” he said.
Besides abortion, Thomas said many other societal ills, including domestic violence and rampant drug abuse, are the result of people turning away from God.
There are plenty of similarities between the U.S. and ancient Israel, he said.
In the Old Testament, when the leaders of Israel followed their own path and not God’s, Israel fell into disarray. He believes the same thing is now happening to America.
At the end of his speech, Thomas called on the audience to make a spiritual or financial pledge to Crisis Pregnancy Centers.
Executive Director Paula Cullen said the Spokane organization is expanding its services. CPC is looking for volunteers and monetary support to build a maternity home for pregnant teens.
Last month, the center served a record 250 women, Cullen said.
