Terry Marks Held After Disturbances
A member of a large Spokane Gypsy family was arrested early Saturday after vandalism and fights were reported at several area houses, including four on the South Hill.
After questioning 16 witnesses, police arrested Terry G. Marks, 35, and booked him into the Spokane County Jail for first-degree malicious mischief, a felony.
The disturbances began about 1 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Bernard. Police received a report that several men, most of them related, drove up and jumped on the roof of a white Lincoln Continental.
Four additional complaints of vandalism and fights were made during the next several minutes at houses near the intersections of Eighth and Ray, Seventh and Hogan, 17th and Freya and an undisclosed Valley location.
All of the calls appeared to involve the same group of people, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.
No other arrests were made, but the incidents are still under investigation, Cottam said.
At least three cars, including the Lincoln, had dents on their roofs and hoods. Deep scratches also had been gouged into the paint over most of the cars.
A fourth car, parked at Fourth and Thor, had been rammed several times and had heavy damage to one side, Cottam said.
