Reds’ Larkin First 30-30 Shortstop

Cincinnati’s Barry Larkin became the first shortstop in major-league history to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in a season Sunday.

Larkin hit a solo homer in the fifth inning, his 30th, to become the 17th player to reach the 30-30 mark. Larkin has stolen 36 bases.

Larkin had topped 30 steals three times in his career but had never hit more than 20 homers.

Howard Johnson is the only other infielder to go 30-30.
