Obituaries

Marlo Ochs Endicott, Wash.

Service for Marlo M. Ochs, 89, was Monday at Bruning Funeral Chapel in Colfax, Wash. Burial was at Endicott Cemetery.

Mr. Ochs, who died Friday, was born in Endicott.

He graduated from high school in Endicott and attended Central Washington College and Washington State College. He played football at both schools. After college, he followed the professional rodeo circuit for a few years, until he married Flora Rieker in Colfax in 1937.

The couple lived and farmed in the Endicott area.

His wife died in 1968.

Mr. Ochs was a member of St. John Grain Growers. Survivors include five daughters, Jane Langston of Pasco, Darlene Fast of McMinnville, Ore., Joyce Kerr of Othello, Wash., Flora Ochs of St. Helens, Ore., and Katie Fortenbacher of Snohomish, Wash.; 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Endicott Emergency Medical Technicians.

Oscar Schuman Tekoa, Wash.

No service will be held for Oscar W. Schuman, 72, at his request. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schuman died Monday at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. He was born in Garfield, Wash., and graduated from high school there.

He married Lou Morrow in Spokane in 1944. They farmed in the Garfield area. In 1952, they moved to Latah and continued farming. They moved to Tekoa in 1973.

Mr. Schuman retired from farming in 1979 but continued to work for Dippel Farms and Dave Duncan Farms. He also worked for Waldo Hay and Pacific Northwest Salvage.

He had served as a council member in Latah and Tekoa and was the mayor of Tekoa from May to December 1979.

He was a member of the Tekoa Jaycee Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Lyle Schuman of Yakima and Lowell Schuman of Plaza; a daughter, Teresa Schuman of Tekoa; a brother, Robert Schuman of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Ruby Rice of Avon Park, Fla., and Roberta Hathaway of Garfield; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tekoa Ambulance Fund.

Kenneth Harmon Spokane

Visitation for Kenneth William “Kenny” Harmon, 88, is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial service will be at noon Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.

Born in Bird City, Kan., Mr. Harmon died Friday.

He lived in Spokane for 47 years and worked as a railroad stock clerk, retiring in 1973.

Mr. Harmon was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Garden Club, and the Riverview Terrace Men’s Club.

He is survived by four daughters, Marjorie Selden of Los Alamos, N.M., Peggy Winegardner of San Jose, Calif., Shirley Hanson of Portland and Kathleen Stier of Homer, Alaska; a stepson, William Fitzgerald of Great Falls, Mont.; 26 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Riverview Terrace Chapel Fund.

Agnes Hawk Spokane

Private family service for Agnes T. Hawk, 92, will be held. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hawk died Saturday.

She was born in Ten Sleep, Wyo., and had lived in Spokane for 76 years.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and a former member of Widows of World War I Veterans.

She is survived by two daughters, Marian Nelson and Frances Hawk, both of Seattle; two sons, John Hawk of Coronado, Calif., and Eugene Hawk of Spokane; a brother, Frank Van Alstine of Georgia; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

Helga Hannah-Kienholz Fremont, Calif.

Family service for Helga M. Hannah-Kienholz, 94, was held at Berge-Pappas-Smith Mortuary in Fremont. Burial was at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hannah-Kienholz, who was born in Minot, N.D., died Saturday.

She was was a former Spokane resident and had worked at The Crescent and was an elementary school teacher.

She moved to Spokane in 1942 from Eastport, Idaho, and moved to California in 1977.

In Spokane she was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church and the Jewel Court of Amaranth.

Two husbands preceded her in death: Hugh Hannah died in 1961, and Edward Kienholz died in 1978.

She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Hughes of Rockville, Md., and June McComas of Fremont, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Audrey Nelson Kellogg

Service for Audrey G. Nelson, 80, will be today at 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Kellogg. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nelson, who was born in Garfield, Wash., died Saturday.

She graduated from Kellogg High School and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong area resident and worked for several area businesses.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Episcopal Church and Altar Guild and the Silver Valley Senior Citizens and was past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Paul; a son, Ken Nelson of Kellogg; a daughter, De Ann Waterman of Spokane; a brother, John Mast of Oregon; a sister, Agnes Hill of Boise; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Eastern Star Memorial Fund or Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Darrell Belstad Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Darrell D. Belstad, 62, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Belstad, who was born in North Dakota, died Sunday.

He came to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1969 from Montana and worked at Knudtsen Chevrolet for 24 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Coeur d’Alene Eagles.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley; two sons, Randy Belstad of Spokane and Rick Belstad of Coeur d’Alene; three brothers, Harold and Jerry Belstad, both of Montana, and Russ Belstad of Port Angeles, Wash.; two sisters, Cleo Black of Oregon and Helen Stolldorf of Arizona; and two granddaughters.
