The NBA announced it will hold its 1998 All-Star weekend in New York. The game, to be played on Feb. 8, will mark the fourth time Madison Square Garden has hosted the All-Star event.

Red Mihalik, a prominent basketball referee in the 1960s, died Wednesday of cancer. He was 80.

Malik Rose, a forward selected 44th in the NBA draft out of Drexel, signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets.
