FROM SPORTS C2 (Friday, April 4, 1997): Replay Aaron Fryer of University was a first-team all-Greater Spokane League baseball player last year. His name was omitted Thursday from a list of all-league returners.

Greater Spokane League baseball season began Tuesday at four sites. It picks up again tonight.

Defending champion: Ferris

Postseason results: Central Valley district champ, Ferris second. CV lost winner-to-state region game, 3-2 against Richland.

New coach: Darryl Stephens replaces Pat Shine at Gonzaga Prep.

All-league returners: First team - Mike Kocharhook, G-Prep; Erick Eigenhuis, CV; Raif Jochim, CV; Eric Sandberg, Ferris. Second team - Brian Munhall, Ferris; Paul Greif, G-Prep; Rob Elmer, Mead; Justin Williams, North Central.

Tough encore: Sandberg won the league’s triple crown last year as a sophomore, hitting .519 with six home runs and 25 runs batted in. He also struck out a league-high 68 batters.

Early sizzler: CV at Ferris, Friday.

Predicted finish: Ferris, CV, Mead, University, G-Prep, Shadle Park, Rogers, Lewis and Clark, NC.
