Craven Upgraded

Compiled From Wire Services

Ricky Craven, injured in a crash during practice for the Interstate Batteries 500 at Texas Motor Speedway, was upgraded to fair condition.

Craven, who crashed Thursday during the opening Winston Cup practice session, sustained a broken right shoulder blade and a concussion. Concern by doctors over a small contusion in his brain waned after Craven, 30, spent a comfortable night in Parkland Health and Hospital Systems in Dallas.

The second round of qualifying for today’s Coca-Cola 300 Busch Grand National race was rained out.

NASCAR officials reverted to the opening round of time trials to determine the final 42-car field. The Coca-Cola 300 will be the first race run at the new track.
