Earhart Emulator Arrives In Brazil
The woman who hopes to finish the voyage Amelia Earhart began 60 years ago has touched down in Brazil, tired but happy after nine hours in the air.
“It was a long day but it was magnificent seeing the giant sand dunes as the sun set and it was amazing flying over the Amazon,” Linda Finch said Friday by telephone from Fortaleza, 1,352 miles northeast of Rio de Janeiro.
The 46-year-old Texas millionaire, who landed in Fortaleza on Thursday evening, is attempting to complete Earhart’s ill-fated bid to fly around the world.
Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, vanished near Howland Island in the Pacific Ocean after completing 22,000 miles of a planned 24,557-mile journey.
On Tuesday, Finch heads to Natal, Brazil, her last stop in South America before heading to St. Louis, Senegal, on Wednesday.
