Town Decides To Accept Union Of Love And Incest Separated Siblings Unknowingly Met, Had Kids

Associated Press

When lovers Daniel and Rosa Maria Moya announced they also are brother and sister, they and their two children expected to be scorned in this small northwestern town.

But the town council this week surprised them - and some politicians - by voting to recognize their union and their children’s births, the daily El Pais reported Thursday.

Daniel, 38, and Rosa Maria, 42, met by chace in a discotheque in Madrid 18 years ago after being split up as children when their parents separated.

The two fell in love and had children - ages 11 and 4 - but did not marry.

Daniel, an unemployed tile maker, said that even though his neighbors in the town of 15,000 people had known their history, they had treated him and his sister with respect.

Not everyone was in favor of recognizing their relationship, though. The center-right Popular Party voted against the proposal this week.

For economic reasons, Daniel had gone to live with his father in the northwestern city of La Coruna while Rosa Maria grew up with her mother in Madrid.
