Eagles Ignore Platform, Build Their Own Nest

Associated Press

A pair of bald eagles whose nest fell to chain saw vandalism are building a new home, spurning the nesting platform built by Boy Scouts.

The new nest is about 130 yards west of the tree that was felled illegally in late January by Mayfield Lake near this Lewis County town, said Mick Cope, a manager for the state Fish and Wildlife Department.

Wildlife experts figured the odds were 1 in 7 that the pair would build a new lakeside nest without help.
